My father has been taking the xofigo treatment for 4 months now (one treatment per month). He will be taking his 5th treatment tomorrow, in addition to Lupron and Xgeva (every three months). His PSA continues to increase - when he started the treatment 4 months ago it was 56. As of yesterday, it is now up to 385. Does this mean the treatment is not working?

It may be a PSA flare which could appear with the first 2 treatments. More than 50% of the patients may have PSA increasing during Xofigo treatment. Most of these patients will have a decrease in ALP after treatments indicating an improvement in bone metastases.

Xofigo often does not affect PSA. He should be getting Xgeva monthly. Scans will show if it is working.
Hi Tall Allen Can I ask is zometa the same as Xgeva? My hubby is starting Xofigo next week. He is staying on zometa and xtandi. Psa was 20 last week. If psa keeps rising is cancer not in danger of spreading?
