xofigo treatment

My father has been taking the xofigo treatment for 4 months now (one treatment per month). He will be taking his 5th treatment tomorrow, in addition to Lupron and Xgeva (every three months). His PSA continues to increase - when he started the treatment 4 months ago it was 56. As of yesterday, it is now up to 385. Does this mean the treatment is not working?

It may be a PSA flare which could appear with the first 2 treatments. More than 50% of the patients may have PSA increasing during Xofigo treatment. Most of these patients will have a decrease in ALP after treatments indicating an improvement in bone metastases.

Thank you for the article - looking at his ALP level it looks like that has increased as well :(

Xofigo often does not affect PSA. He should be getting Xgeva monthly. Scans will show if it is working.

Hi Tall Allen Can I ask is zometa the same as Xgeva? My hubby is starting Xofigo next week. He is staying on zometa and xtandi. Psa was 20 last week. If psa keeps rising is cancer not in danger of spreading?

Thank you for your advice

They are not the same, but they do similar things. Xofigo may not affect PSA - sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't.

Why monthly?

It works best as a monthly shot.

Hi ahjab can I ask how your dad tolerated xofigo? My hubby starts it next week 🤗 but I must say I'm nervous with psa. My hubby has a lot of bone pain now. Wishing your dad and you well x

My father tolerated Xofigo just fine, he didn't have any major side effects, including his blood count - in fact, I think it helped with the pain. His pain is now tolerable with Tylenol only. Best wishes to your husband.
