My husband has stage 4 prostate cancer. He was originally diagnosed in 2014 with Gleason 3 & 4. PSA started to go up in 2016. Started ADT. 2018 had Galium scan and they found it in bones and lymph nodes. They started chemo, he ended up in the hospital with a perforated colon and almost died. Fall last year, PSA started to rise again, so he started Xtandi. Currently on Xtandi and ADT. PSA is .3.
He has been having terrible hip pain for months now, it is to a point he can hardly walk. His GP says he has bone on bone and has suggested a hip replacement.
Has anyone done this? Are there things we should be aware of or avoid? Would this cause problems with cancer treatments going forward?

Although I had a hip replacement prior to my PC diagnosis, I've had 3 other joint replacements (2 knees and a shoulder) since being at stage 4. None of the last 3 replacements impacted my PC treatments, including EBRT. Unless there is some other medical reason for not performing a replacement he should check with an orthopedic surgeon. My bone-on-bone hip pain was the worst pain I've experienced. I wish you both well.
My brother has had 2 hip replacements since he has been Stage IV. Both were for avascular necrosis, probably related to Zometa. His MO chose an orthopedic surgeion who has done a fellowship in oncology, just to be safe. Both surgeries were uneventful with great recovery.

2 years into Stage 4 Treatment 
After months of urinary tract problems, I was finally diagnosed with Stage 4 Advanced Prostate Cancer with a Gleason score of 9 by the VA 
55 and technically stage 4 PC

Deciding a plan of care for Stage 4 with mets to skull, spine, ribs, shoulder and pelvis.
