Info on Xofigo

We have our consult with the Radiation Oncologist this Friday! Little history Diagnosed Dec 2016 Advanced stage 4 Gleason 4+5 PSA over 1,000! Lupron 15 months then Zytiga added! Exgeva started at diagnosis. PSA never went to single digits! Rising over last 6 months. March 29th 308.47 April 26th 312.34 May 24th 346.60

Zytiga stopped in May pain has increased maybe just coincidence. I have read several posts along with Cancer Connect Treatment of Stage IV Prostrate Cancer by Dr.C.H.Weaver (updated 1/2021) Very informative have my own questions.Would like some others input as to what to ask. My husband is interested in quality of life and has said no to Chemo and two Trials. He is interested in Xofigo because of lower side effects. Thanks in advance.

Morris is presenting his Phase 3 results on the combination of docetaxel and Xofigo this week - it looks good!

Chemo increases QOL in all studies. Your husband's imagination may be getting in his own way.

I read somewhere you can do Chemo after you have done Xofigo. Yes or no

I agree with TA that chemotherapy can improve your quality of life, especially if you are already symptomatic. Most people think of chemotherapy as just side effects, but it does kill the cancer too.

You only have to commit to trying one cycle. I did 6 cycles and don't regret it at all. During chemotherapy, I was pain free for the first time. The side effects are tolerable for most. I woud do it again if it will help.

How long ago did you do chemo? What do you mean you would do again if it would help? How long did it help for?

I did chemo 4 years ago at the beginning of my ADT treatment, about 1 month after diagnosis. One of my remaianing options is Cabazitaxel chemotherapy and so yes I will be doing chemo again if/when I get to that point.

My original 6 cycles of chemotherapy was done based on the results of the CHAARTED and STAMPEDE clinical trials that both found early Docetaxel chemotherapy increased overall survival. One of the main reasons I did it was I didn't want to have regrets later that there was something recommended and I didn't do it.

Husband has decided to do Xofigo. He has met all requirements and first treatment is this Thursday! His Oncologist is also gathering info on what else he can do now and or after done with Xofigo! He is a very positive thinking man ! Any info on what to expect is welcome.

I went through the xofigo treatment a free years ago. It's not as bad as it sounds. And it does work on soft tissue mets.

Get the chemo, if you follow the dietary conditions, hydrate and exercise it was not a bad experience and would do it again if necessary. I never had nausea and used one pill when I ate a fried piece of meat. My diet consisted of broiled chicken, turkey and fish, beef only once a week but sometimes not, load up on vegetables and fruit. I stayed away from alcohol and still worked my part time job, lost the body hair, thining of the head hair but a small price to pay for a longer life.

Hi,My dad is 73 and initially did chemo (Docetaxel) for six rounds. It started off easy and then got tough, but he still has a high quality of life. It really knocked his cancer back big time, though. I would give it a try!

Hi my dad did very well with taxotere, very few side effects. Good to consider for the future. Good luck with xofigo!
