Changing horses, Enzalutamide to Abiraterone(Zytiga)

My PSA has been on a slow but linear rise for 8 months. Now at 5.2. Most recent PET scan showed further activity in my mediastinum, increase in size of abdominal lymph nodes and a new first lesion in my right lung. The large pleural tumors on my left lung remain stable and there is no fluid.

My oncologist feels that the small cell hybrid that was responsible for the pleural tumors and fluid 3+ years ago still is holding after chemo. New activity is likely the old adenocarcinoma which has found a "work around" after 10 plus years of ADT and Enzalutamide not working to block AR receptors. So we made a decision to start on Abiraterone/prednisone now while continuing on Lupron.

So far tolerating the new drugs and labs are okay. Will wait to get PSA. I feel good enough to enjoy everything I am able to do for 80 years old with age certainly slowing me down. Spent some time this weekend with my family in the mountains at altitude. I can do easy hikes as long as I periodically stop and catch my breath.

Most important was just getting out and enjoying the tranquility of the rocky mountains, running waters, clean air and some of my family. I still feel blessed for these extra years.

I love your positive attitude.

My husband is similar situation as yours but he is not as positive. He fell asleep at the dining room table after lunch. Says he is still happy to be alive but difficulty with walking. Abiraterone after Xtandi worked for him for awhile. Now he is trying daralutamide so we will see if that helps lower PSA.

He is almost 78 and 20 plus years with pCa.
