L-theanine suppresses the metastasis of prostate cancer by downregulating MMP9 and Snail

I found this last night when researching SSRIs for PCx. I did not find any other posts about it other than I guy that posted two years ago, using this every three hours as an adjuvant to his Xtandi. Any thoughts on this study and amino acid taken as a supplement and not just from drinking green tea (which I do in matcha powder form)? Since I'm sending it at midnight, it will probably get lost in the shuffle and I'll get about 2 responses lol

L theanine is an amino acid which is in Green Tea and to a lesser extent in Black tea. L Theanine slows cancer cell growth..just like EGCG, And both these substances are found in Green and Black tea besides other polyphenols.Magnus, our friend on this forum drinks Macha Green Tea daily like a fish . He is completing 28 years with advanced PCa. Of Course, he is also on various medical treatments. I just woke up..now I am going to kichen to make my Black+Green Tea...a full big cup along with Shitake Mushroom Crisps (chips)

Doesn’t white tea have even more polyphenols and L theanine?

I do not know. I drink a 50/50 mixture of Green and Black tea with some fatfree Milk and little bit sugar added. And Ginger and Cardamon added to it while boiling. This is called 'CHAI" and 2 to 3 billion people in World drink Chai. .mostly in Asian countries where prostate cancer rates are less than 10% of western countries. May be tea has some role.

Don't want to be a downer, but a good friend of mine had been taking these pharmaceutical grade Green Tea supplements in his fight against leukemia; took no chemo or anything else, just good diet and these supplements. His doctors at Dana Farber couldn't believe his numbers and how they improved year after year....he's still with us and 5 years ago was diagnosed with Prostate cancer; don't know the grade, etc but he had surgery and seems to be OK. So you have to take these anecdotal episodes with a grain of salt. Yes, there is a biochemical mechanism that L-theanine can affect, but is it really enough to be of any use? All the talk about Resveratrol in red wine and its potent cardio effects? Turns out you'd have to drink something like 100 bottles of wine to get ANY marginal effect at all...but I .wouldn't mind trying!!!

100 bottles of wine on the wall, 100 bottles of wine, take one down, pass it around...

To quote W.C. Fields (upon hearing that a man had drowned in a vat of wine?/whiskey?), “O Death, where is thy sting?”

Yes, that's probably it....but how could you even begin to know how much to take for metastatic PC? I've read many studies of various herbs and nutraceuticals (DIM for example, which did zilch for me) and it seems impossible to know how many mgs. are necessary for a therapeutic effect, unless you do a large double blind study involving different dosages and placebos. It probably does work to some extent but the amount necessary might cause other unwanted side effects. But it would be worth the risk when all other options have failed....thanks for the info!

Nal, I was just chatting to LearnAll about Zoloft, as well as aminos for anti depression symptoms, as well as to potentially slow the cancer growth. Here's what I said to him. Do you have any thoughts:

Do the natural anti-depressent Amino acids have the same mechanism that can slow prostate cancer? Or do those aminos affect the cancer simply by lowering stress basically? I'm trying to decide whether to take the low dose zoloft or just 5-HTP and Theanine, or all three.

This is from Nalakrats a while back:

"The Amino Acids 5-Hydroxytryptophan[5-HTP] and L-Tryptophan are precursors of Serotonin. Serotonin is related to anxiety, depression, and aggression. These Amino Acids alone or with others below, act as Serotonin Re-uptake Inhibitors, and can for some replace Prozac, Zoloft, and Paxil.

5-HTP is generally recommended over L-Tryptophan because it crosses the Blood-Brain Barrier at a higher rate, and is converted into Serotonin more efficiently, than L-Tryptophan; and has a more pronounced antidepressant effect.

L-Glycine has a known calming effect on the brain. And the amino acid L-Theanine, discovered in Tea, and originally Synthesized by yours truly and published in 1966, is a calming neurotransmitter.

Personally I prefer L-Tryptophan or 5-HTP---> 500 mgs/3 times a day. Not prescribing, just a preference for me. There is a product, that I believe is called Amino Sleep, that promotes balanced sleep."

Well, didn't realize your extensive background on the subject! To answer your question, I was using BioResponse DIM as a precaution against getting PCa...figured that, along with all the other supplements (flaxseed, curcumin, ginger, beta-sitosterol) I was taking might protect me from this thing. But, that was not to be the case! Too bad I'll never know if all those substances did indeed prevent my cancer from being even more aggressive and maybe I would have had a much more serious prognosis had I not taken them...oh well, more food for thought.....

Great stuff, Hidden . So glad to have you here.

I just checked my melatonin bottle (RiteAid) & L-Theanine’s not included. Gotta get it.

FYI, my med system’s Specialty Pharmacist rec’d no more than 6mg melatonin qhs with my 240mg apalutamide qd.

you can get it from life extension as extended release

Is the Bioresponse any different than the other DIM options? I noticed it was about three times more expensive than some of the more popular brands.
