I underwent 1 year of hormone therapy with the prostate being removed (as planne d) halfway through at the 6 month mark. In other words, I had two 3-month injections in the months prior to the surgery and then 2 more 3-month injections following the surgery (total of 12 months of hormone therapy). The plan was to use Lupron for all 4 injections, but two of the injections, including this last one was Eligard--both the same drug, but different manufacturers and different ways to administer the injection. I was told both of the times when Eligard was used that it was due to a nationwide Lupron shortage, hence the use of Eligard.
Both of my Lupron injections were in the upper rear and both Eligard injections were in the abdomen. All of the "depot pods" that hold the drug for time release went away by the end of the 3 month period, all but the last one which was Eligard. The end of the 3 month period for that injection was December 5, and as of today, February 20, I am 77 days past (close to another 3 months) the 3 months and the pod, although smaller, is still on my abdomen. My physician just says, "it will go away," but I'm concerned I have a slow trickle of Eligard still being released and wondering how long this lump on my abdomen is going to take to completely go away. Anyone else have this experience.

Quit worrying, that stuff happens. You are getting the time release benefit. I get 6 month shots and have never had a "real" problem. 6 years and counting.
I usually get 6 month Lupron, but last time it was 6 month Eligard. The abdomen bump lasted much longer. Finally gone after about two and a half months.
I wouldn’t worry about it. I’ve been getting eligard every six months since July 2017. (8 times now??). Usually the bump disappears before the next one (I switch sides of my belly each time) but twice, the bump has stayed a little longer. My doc assured me I wasn’t getting a double dose if I’ve got the new bump simultaneously to the disappearing one. Hang in there! Peace DougNOLA
I had the same experience and on my follow up visit with a different nurse, I was told that when the injection is too shallow, it can cause a lump. The injection needs to go deep enough to hit the fatty tissue layer to be absorbed. She said it was not a cause for concern but I was concerned, as you are.
I have a small lump in the arm that has been there for 5 mos from Eligard. The last one they did in the stomach and it went away. Doc says don't worry about it.
I get eligard 3 month shot in the belly fat, switching sides with each shot. I got my 5th shot last friday. I always can still fell the prior bump when I get a new shot, the old bump lasts for a few weeks after the new shot. Never been a problem.
My 3-month Eligard bumps lasted many months and added up. After 2 years of getting the 3-month injections, I could easily still feel a couple on the left and a couple on the right side of my abdomen. Bumping them or bending over in a certain way was painful.
I switched to Lupron in my butt area a little over a year ago and I'm glad I did. The Eligard bumps did eventually go away.
Thanks Bob, Since i am done with my treatment, and I can now look forward to my testosterone returning, my concern is that the drug is still going to be trickling into my bloodstream. That's the part that is really unclear to me. Are there still drugs in that "bump?" If that is the case I would expect that my T level is going to remain close to 0 when they told me it would be "coming back" right around this time.
I still have two lumps in my abdomen from October 2018 Eligard shots. Those are the only ones I received the rest have been Lupron in upper rear area. No pain in abdomen but I don’t think they are going away .
I have hard belly lumps from when I had Firmagon shots to the belly. Still there a year later. Interesting that my latest CT report noted injection granulomas in the abdomen. I switched to Lupron butt injections and won't go back as Firmagon gave me a lot of problems.

I too get the Eligard shot every 6 months (due to the nation-wide Lupron shortage). The "Bump" seems to last about a week for the gluteal injection. My MO says that he will switch back to Lupron once it becomes available. In his words: "I've seen some failures with Eligard."
Yeah, I'd say mine was a failure--still sitting under the skin nearly 3 months after it should have dissolved forever. What I've learned: Lupron is the brand of choice and Eligard is a backup, or Plan B when Lupron is not available. If you are getting an injection look the RN in the eye and ask her if she knows the needle is supposed to enter the fatty tissue.
(continued), not just pierce the skin. If not, you've got a problem. It's going to just sit there under the skin on top of the fatty tissue. Best of luck.
