14 Years And Still Kicking

Just recently celebrated my 14th Anniversary since being diagnosed with Prostate Cancer.

Even though I was not cured by initial treatment and it returned 6 years ago and was deemed Stage 4 and incurable, I'm still here and regard myself very fortunate and I think I'm doing ok. The support and information available on this site is priceless, and I thank everyone.

Keep up the good fight fellas!

Congratulations. You said that PSA hovered around 1.0 for 6 years before you started Lueprolide (lucrin) Would you share with us what kind of interventions you were using to keep PSA below 1.0 for 6 years without ADT.

In that 6 year period after EBRT (Radiation Treatment), I was not on any other treatment.

I honestly believed ( and so did my Dr ) that I was in the clear for good.

But then my PSA slowly started to rise, and eventually scans found the lymph nodes mets and various spots in my pelvis.

Amazing, and I posted a few days ago that I'm miserable after just two years!

Sometimes I hit a low, but have this place to rub shoulders for a pick up...

Cheers!

Thanks Kaliber

If it helps one Brother feel a little better my post is worth it.

I remember when I hit the 12 year mark, I was invited to tell my story to the local Pca support group. Most of the guys there were newly diagnosed and scared out of their wits. My main point was to reassure them that even if they faced the worst case scenario and the cancer came back, there was still many more years of good life left.

Thanks for sharing . My husband is so optimistic about his survival-ship and I love reading that it’s possible

What was your Gleason score when you were first diagnosed ??

deano58 profile image
deano58 in reply to Fairwind

4+3. They called it a Gleason 7, but now days a 4+3 ( as opposed to a 3+4 ) is called a "7b"

They now put in the same category as a G 8

I am G(4+3=7) Grade 3 Unfavorable Intermediate Risk (UIR) on 2020/01/29.

73 y.o. 2020/06/08 to 2020/07/07 VMAT Hypofractionnated RT 60 Gy/20 Fx + 2020/05/31 Lupron Depot 22.5mg/12 weeks X 2.

10 weeks post VMAT and 15 weeks per-ADT PSA = 0.03 ug/L & Testosterone <0.2 nmol/L or <5.7684 ng/dL.

My RO was surprised of such a LOW PSA like for an post-RP but I still have my prostate.

Seems that my PCa reacted very well to the Rxs.

Good Bless You All.

Amazing response

Have you made changes to your diet ?

Do you exercise?

There may be something you are doing that makes all the difference

I have always tried to keep fit by running since my early 20's.

Ran marathons up until just before my Dx, and have continued to run ( but much shorter distances) to this day. Plus have been lifting weights regularly to try to keep in shape since ADT . Running has always sort of been what I call my "emotional gyroscope". If I can run,I feel like I'm kind of holding my own in this fight. ?!

As for diet, nothing out of the ordinary just always tried to eat healthy. Funny enough, never been a big red meat eater, fish, poultry instead. I do however enjoy an alcoholic beverage maybe too often but my MO has told me he hasn't got a problem with that.

My protein sources are also fish and chicken

I am a bodybuilder and I still train intensely as a personal trainer I spend about 5 hours a day in the gym training others

Hormone therapy has not made a dent on my body yet still strong and lifting intensely

I really want to live for many years yet never one to drink I do however enjoy a joint or 2 from time to time

My oncologist doesn't seem to mind as long as its minimal

Very inspired by you

58 next month and this new life isn't bad at all

Not yet

Hi, unfortunately I’ve read somewhere that fish and chicken are the worst protein sources for prostate cancer. You’d need to google it, but seems best to use pulses and qionoa etc. Cheers.

Interesting. Yes, I avoid chicken - especially chicken skin along with egg yolks contain higher levels of choline. Never heard about fish being bad. Will have to look into that because I eat salmon and sardines. Thanks.

I hope you have many more anniversaries. When I was DXd 23 years ago no one wanted to do surgery due to PSA of 95 and a G 4+3. A famous NYC cancer center told me this: "There is nothing we can do for you. Go home and make the best of your remaining time." Talk about getting punched in the gut. Well I did make the best of my remaining time by finding a urologist that was doing brachytherapy at a small community hospital. I had Brachy and EBRT and was good for 15 years. Then I had BCR and beating PCa back for the last 8 eight years. I now have a tumor extending from the prostate bed , prostate gland and thru the wall of the bladder. I will beat this tumor back with cryosurgery.

Congrats mcp1941! 23years that is amazing. Good on you!

Your Drs consider cryosurgery is possible after EBRT?

mcp1941 profile image
mcp1941 in reply to deano58

I seen my MO today and he showed me pathology report from biopsy in the bladder. Gleason score was 10 and he now thinks the cryo is not an option but I should discuss this with my urologist. What a downer!
