well 8 years ago I got the sad face from my doctor. 50/50 chance of 5 years. Now as my wife would say I’m past my expectations date. On top of that just had hip surgery on both hips. Went in for one hip, left hip ball worn out, but x rays showed that the cancer had eaten all the way across the femur bone in my right hip. Said it was a wonder that I hadn’t broken it. So partial replacement on the left and pinned the right. Had to drill thru the cancer in my right femur, so worried about that but pathology report came back as the cancer was dead 🙏🙏. Now to get healed up and ready for several more years 🙏🙏🙏🙏
8 years and counting.: well 8 years... - Advanced Prostate...
8 years and counting.
congrats. I am also 8 years out.
Wow Larry! Such great news to read this morning! Rest, heal and you two enjoy every second😊🌻Jackie

rite on brother Larry .. got all fixed up , ready for the next decade . Great news buddy.
❤️❤️❤️
I like to read stories like this from long term survivors. It's been six years for me and I'm hoping for a few more as well.
Well…I am 29(!) years post Dx at age 48; 28(!) post RRP; recurrence in 2005; and 10 months post SBRT to pelvic lymph nodes found on a PSMA-CT scan. All treatments at Dana Farber/B&W in Boston.
I attribute it to good single malt scotches, good mid-rare Wagyu steaks, and Costa Rican coffee. Also a couple of good doctors who have put up with my general “who cares?” attitude at times, and cajoled me into having some tests and treatments.
All boils down to me feeling in control of it.
Good luck to you! It is YOUR cancer, so YOU own it - not the other way around! I used to be a runner back when my knees worked. I had a shirt the read on the front;
“ I have cancer…” and on the back, “But it doesn’t have ME!”
Some of us are just plain lucky, but can influence that luck with our decision making at critical times.
In all the rest of the time, enjoy the life you are living now!
Pax
Thanks for the reply Pax. We have a lot in common. I live a relatively heathly lifestyle but I, too, enjoy scotch, steak, and coffee when I feel like it. Life has to be fun. I attribute my six years of stage 4 to my positive attitude and to my enjoyment of every day to the best I can. Cancer really teaches us what is important in life and what isn't. Cheers!
Pax- Kidos to you- that’s awesome. Was you cancer metastasized at diagnosis? If so, your bio is extraordinary.
No…After 24 biopsy sticks, I was Dx’d as a 3+3=6. Had open NSRRP 5 mos later, restaged to 3+4=7. Also have Soft Tissue Sarcoma, 3/4 of my deltoid removed on the same table during RRP - different surgical teams. A third team performed an umbilical hernia repair, 3rd doctor. Was a train wreck afterwards.
I was Dx’d with “Li-Fraumeni “”syndrome at Dana Farber. Means I am very susceptible to multiple cancers, which I have.
Surgery in 1996, PSA rise in 2005, continued rise until a Pylarify PSMA scan found two very avid abdominal lymph nodes in 2023. High-dose SBRT -CT radiation5 days to one node, and 5 days to the second. First post radiation PSA lowered from 1.14 down to .20! Next test in September next month.
Nice one Larry, how are the dancing lessons going 😀. Great news, very encouraging for everyone here.I'm 11 years in, I want another 20 !

I am 8 years out as well. Glad it was pancreatic cancer.
Dammit Larry, that's great news. I too am in bonus time at almost 4 years. Love to post a similar post to yours in 4 more years.
good luck Warrior
I am 8 years out from diagnosis but my journey has been far less challenging and dramatic. Here's hoping your next 8 years are much better than the last 8 years.
Here Hear! - I am one year into BCR on Lupron/Abi and I love hearing from you upbeat fighters- it inspires me to believe in a longer span than the 5 years my MO keeps telling me and I hope to keep learning from you!
Ask your Dimwit MO just WHERE on your body an expiration date of 5 years is tattooed?
Know what they call the guy who finished last in his class in Medical School ?
“Doctor”.
amen
Keep at it! Expiration dates are over-rated
