Muscle Pain.

Hello my friends. I join you everyday to learn from your wisdom but I seldomly write. Now I need a consult. I work out intensely every day as I have all of my life (now 74). Recently I have been suffering from muscle pains throughout my body that feel like when you over exercise a muscle you haven't used in a while. Anyone else experience this? I have stage 4 PC with a Gleason of 9 and bone Mets everywhere. I have been on ADT for 18 months and otherwise feel quite good and strong.

I think you should discuss your exercise regime with your oncologist. The cancer in the bones can make them fragile. Check your bone mineral density if you haven't lately. You may need to adjust your dose of statins downward. I experienced those kinds of muscle pains when I took 40 mg of atorvastatin, but they disappeared when I reduced the dose to 20 mg.

Hey CountryJoe ! It’s the ADT stripping first your muscles then your bones. You could avoid osteo issues if you’re working out but gaining muscle is dam near impossible without t. I had crazy muscle and joint pains my first two years Of double adt during and after imrt. I lost all muscle because I was unable to lift more than ten pounds by drs orders . I had tubes out of my back for over a year . This put me in osteopenia and now I’m on prolia for bone strength. I hope that you can avoid all of this . Feeling good and strong is amazing for you . With time we can adjust to just about anything. Be Well CJ ! 🏋🏻‍♂️

ADT will definitely cause body aches. I am on 4 month injections of eligard and there are days that parts of my body ache as you described, like exercising an area you have not exercised for a long time. I sometimes get a gum bleed for no reason. ADT effects everyone differently and that unfortunately is the price one must pay for one's survival.

I've tried several different statins, and they all caused muscle pain. I used to get sore muscles without taking statins, and the sore muscles disappeared when I started taking magnesium.

CJ: congrats on getting through 18 mos of ADT, good accomplishment in itself. Besides hot flashes, muscle pain/fatigue has been the biggest SE for me on 15 months of ADT. Sometimes joint pain too. Recovery time seems longer, like lactic acid builds up. Alternate days of weights/aerobic seems to help, I try to sweat it out every day.

My real fear is what happens when my current medicine longer works. I can tolerate the side effects of ADT for as long as it is effective but I don't want to get into chemo. My MO has told me that the medicine I take should continue being effective for another 6 months or so. Can anyone share their knowledge on this point?

Know what you mean about chemo, I dread it too, but there's many other options after becoming castration resistant (CR) to ADT, including second-gen ADT, like Zytiga (abiraterone), estrogen (estradiol) or BAT therapy, and PARP inhibitors... read this site often to learn about those and TA's blog has many links to studies...

Nalakrats, did you see my response on the medication I am receiving? Do you know this medication How long before my PC is resistant?

Joe

I am a bodybuilder and I find lactic acid builds up much faster after chemo

My sessions used to be 1hour and 10 min

I now do 45 max

Every day may be too frequent at 78

Have you thought of a 4 or 5 day routine that gives you most recovery time
