What have you learnt about Chemo?

I am about to undergo my 6th Docetaxel Chemo session and it's been quite a ride. I began Chemo within 6 weeks of being diagnosed with Stage 4, GS 9, PSA 50, a Bladder tumour and Pelvic Mets in late Dec 2019.

For me, I have learnt that it takes a week to get over an infusion, the steroids keep me awake but keep me strong, so I need to take a sedative to sleep. And, a few days after the Chemo goes in, I feel the cancer cells complaining and I suspect dying. It's like a pinching feeling in my prostrate and a stinging feeling in my bladder.

That's my top three, I was wondering what the brains trust thinks.

I’m no even in the top ten. I do admire your tenacity. I wish well with chemo. May it give many years of life to live. Envision those bastard pc cells hitting the road and leaving you in peace. Hang in there . Recover well ... scott🌵

Congratulations on nearing chemotherapy. Let’s pray that it gives you many years with your family. I cannot compare my experience in 2004, as my treatment was different. 180 days in a clinical trial in three cycles at age 57 relatively strong in body except for a double by-pass for an aortic aneurysm 18 months before. Each cycle consisted of eight weeks with one week Docetaxol and the next week of Adrimyacin on a 24 hour pump for six weeks and two weeks off. Then repeat. The chemo did not bother me as much as the two orals taken - Erustamine alternated with Ketoconozole, plus 30 mg of Prednisone daily. I managed to work 16-20 hours a week. I had a great employer.

My thought process was like yours, “I am killing all the little bastards in my body.” Sleep was no problem except when I had the pump attached. I never really had a chance to recover except during the two week per cycle break. Just one step in front of the other step and keep moving on.

Chemo works best, IMO when the body is strong and the tumor burden minimal.

We are all different in scope of disease. And, that is what treating so difficult. Put your faith in your medical oncologist, our Creator, and well wishes from friends and family. Stay away from negativity - “ Oh, you poor soul, having cancer and all.”

You will do fine and spend many years with your family and grandchildren.
