Does anybody out there have any experience with "Friable" tissue in the prostate? That's what my urologist diagnosed me with after having painful urination with occasional blood. He said it's quite common with radiation treatment, but I haven't had radiation treatment.
It's currently a wait and see situation. If it doesn't resolve on its own he can go in and surgically remove the offending tissue.
The longer, more entertaining version of the story is here:
Tom, Read your blog. You have such great writing talent . Here are my few thoughts:
(1) This friable tissue doesnot seem to due to prostate cancer. Your PCa is in full remission.
(2) Friable tissue can result from severe local inflmmation as the swelling in the area creates a liquified tissue which may break into tiny pieces easily disrupting and breaking capillaries in the area ...this leads to blood leaking out of broken capillaries finding its way into urine.
(3) Most common cause of hematuria is INFECTION...have your urologist sent the urine specimen for culture and sensitivity...has he sent urine for urinalysis. If not, that should be the first thing. You can run out to nearby pharmacy ,buy a urine dipstick kit and test for UTI yourself.
(4) As for Prostate biopsy...to me it seems un necessary . The urine specimen can be sent to lab for microspcopic analysis..the tissue can be analysed under microscope..No Need For Biopsy. You Uro seems like" instrument happy guy".
The shade of color of urine can give some ideas as to from what part it is coming from ....if it is dark, chocholate shade...bladder orkidneys may be the culprit, if it is bright red..prostate or urethra might be responsible.
Take Home Message: Check Urine for Infection ASAP ! Then, review medication side effects. And then proceed further.
(3) - All that has been done. No signs of an immune response or bacteria in any of multiple urine samples.
(4) - It wouldn't be a regular prostate biopsy, it would be a biopsy of whatever tissue is removed from the urethra, if this ends up going the surgical route.
Xgeva, Lupron, and Abiraterone all list dysuria and hematuria as side effects. Oh joy!
Thanks. Well too late for the cystoscope. I wish he had looked at the prostate on the way in, instead of having a good long look around the bladder and checking the prostate on the way out. That was a bit uncomfortable!
I was also diagnosed with bladder cancer a week after my prostate diagnosis. My bladder gets checked regularly. Blood in urine triggers an extra check.
No visible tissue in my urine, just an occasional tiny clot.
I see...action may be happening in bladder wall and Poor little prostate is being blamed unnecessarily...lets wait and see who the real culprit turns out to be ?
Friable is old news. I went to ER earlier this week with severe abdominal pain, and a CT scan found a new, large tumor in my bladder. Biopsy scheduled for Tuesday to confirm if it's a recurrence of bladder cancer. Should be curable, but probably going to lose my bladder and prostate in the process, which ironically is good for the PCa fight.
