My husband had prostate cancer about 20 years ago. Treated with radiation at Loma Linda. Was fine until a year or two ago when he had trouble urinating due to scar tissue from the radiation. They reamed things out to allow urination, but biopied the tissue removed. It was prostate cancer gleason 9. Did nothing for a few months until his PSA doubled. It was around 8 I think. Gave one Lupron shot. In August there were no mets. In January PSA wad 2.5, but then in March it was 6. Gave another Lupron shot and is going to add Xtandi. They did a bone scan this month and there are mets in his hipbones and some areas around the pelvis area. Does this seem like normal treatment? Has anyone had experience with any cancer centers or a really good doctor in Arizona? We live in Southern Arizona.

Treatment for Prostate Cancer. Suggestions?
Dr Paraminder Singh prostate cancer specialist now at mayo in Scottsdale. He made the right moves for me upon dx. Also Rd Michael Uzick in Tuc. A naturalpathic onocologist that has lead me thru. Sorry for this reacureance .
It sounds like a very reasonable treatment plan to me. It is following a very predictable course, given the unkilled Gleason 9. I think that Xtandi is the perfect next step, followed by docetaxel (or both together). I think that when he does docetaxel, adding Provenge infusions at around the same time will increase the abscopal effect.
If you went to Loma Linda I assume you vegetarian which is great. You still have all of the ADT therapies, Casodex, xtandi, Zytiga. Also, Xofigo is another option down the road.
About a month ago, he started having a lot of pain in his hips. They did a CT scan and he has more bone mets. One in his hip joint. They did radiation on that spot because of the pain. He saw a medical onchologist at the onchology center and they are going to start chemo for him as the xtandi is not doing any good. He is still on Lupron. Has an appt to get the port next week.
