My Final Lupron Injection

After tolerating 44 IMRT treaments and 21 months of ADT pretty well, I am glad to report that my eighth and final three-month Lupron injection was yesterday. My PSA is still undetectable. Admittedly the ADT has taken a it's toll, leaving me somewhat flabby and tired, although I managed to stay very active for the most part. Hopefully this Spring I can start knocking off a few pounds and getting back to full strength. I think that a celebration this weekend is in order :)

Thanks! I've been looking forward to this for a while. I have sympathy for the guys that have been going a lot longer than two years.

My treatment is potentially curative so I'm hoping for a long vacation!

Great job ! Celebrate life!🥳

Congratulations indeed. I'm getting my shot for 12-15 months Jan 3rd. I am also discussing with all my MD's the papers that have recently reported that 18 months works as well as 24 months with high-risk (G9) patients who've had curative intent IG/IMRT/ARC (45 treatments, 81 Gy). The author of one paper made a comment at a conference to the effect that "you gain nothing after 18 months, why torment the patient with the side effects.."

Anyway - Indeed congrats! I had blood drawn yesterday and got the fastest report (less than 24 hours) I've ever experienced - PSa is again undetectable. Just hoping it stays that way for a very long time.

I hope your recovery from the Lupron side-effects is fast and sees you in great health again. A celebration this weekend would indeed be in order!

BTW - looked at your profile, I suspect I'm somewhat older, but other than that - we have very similar disease and treatment. I had 1 more radiation treatment than you did - that's probably for the extra Gleason number I also have.. :)

I saw that report about 18 months of ADT being as effective as 24 and was tempted to tell my MO that I was done 6 months ago, but I've been tolerating castration pretty well, and I didn't want to have any regrets if it comes back.

in reply to ecm1

I think that was smart.💪

Can you give the sites for the papers you mentioned. Thanks.

Almost all the papers are based on a study by Dr. Abdenour Nabid, MD out of Canada.

Congratulations! My husband had his last Lupron shot a week ago. His Casodex will end in late February. I’m glad you’re looking to celebrate. Paul had this last appointment two days after extensive nasal/sinus surgery. Honestly, I think he was still affected by the general anesthesia he had as it didn’t seem to register that he’s done with Lupron. He hadn’t wanted to change the appointment. The MO herself was excited! The doctor said he should feel better almost immediately after last casodex. Hope that’s your experience too! Hooray!

Thanks! I spend several months on both Lupron and Casodex and I was an emotional wreck, crying at movies, or Suburu commercials, or finding an old favorite toy of one of my kids in the basement. Getting off the Casodex helped tremendously. I wish your husband good health and a qucik return to his old self.

Congrats!!!!! Enjoy your extended vacation!! Great attitude!!!

So you don’t share “my” disappointment.....

Just remember, that shit (Lupron) doesn’t just all of a suddenly stop!!

You just had your last 3mo dose so it won’t start weaning out of your body for 3mo’s. They’ll tell you 6 mo’s to feel better but just relax and let it happen. May be more or may be less!!!

Best of luck / life!!!

Happy day indeed. I began what I thought was a fairly rapid return to "normality" as my 6th 6 month Lupron shot was in April. Lupron results began immediately 3 1/2 years ago but they are slow to leave my system. I am just now noticing some slight changes, so patience is important in our expectations. Best wishes for a speedy return.

Hmm... Congrats and please provide us with updates.

In October I had my fifth (accompanied by a fifth of 21 year old scotch)!

According to my MSK RO and MO math, I still have 7 to go!

However, I've been VERY lucky to have few SE's.

After HDR Brachy (April 26th) and 5 weeks IMRT, I still feel great and lost 8 pounds(due to a dietary change, no more 400 calorie daily desserts (do the math). However, I try to exercise daily to maintain muscle mass.

Best

Lupron for almost 3 years next month. (Almost every 6 months). A fifth of scotch wouldn't last 21 minutes around here. Enjoy.
