The one I've had my eyes on is the one at Johns Hopkins and several other sites for men using docetaxel. It is randomized to be taken with or without iv ascorbic acid:

Of course, you can just buy abscorbic acid infusions on your own. There is a burgeoning cottage industry of people offering infusions to anyone for cash. Be careful to insure sterility, though.

Thank you sir for your answer. I have about 4 months to try ANYTHING before my next MO appointment to try to slow the psa progression, otherwise it’s my last chance before starting ADT so I am really despeate trying to find something. TWO questions please 1) is it safe to do so? 2) do you think it might help based on some trials?

Thanks.

(1) it is safe, if sterile. It is acidic and may stimulate the kidneys leading to more peeing, and maybe some burning.

(2) I have no idea. In theory, high dose infused absorbic acid is pro-oxidant (as opposed to oral intake, which is anti-oxidant). Pro-oxidant may be a good thing when combined with chemo or radiation because their efficacy depends upon oxidative destruction of cancer cells. It may also assist with immune effectiveness for the same reason. I suspect that if it has any measurable effect, it is as an adjuvant therapy, and not as a solo agent - but that is pure conjecture on my part. In one small study, it had no effect:

Here's a recent review article:

Thanks again TA. I trust your judgment.

From what I have seen intravenous ascorbic acid was not effective on cancer.

Thanks Magnus, I am just very desperate to try anything that might slow progression. I am not looking for cure, just to keep the psa from moving up. I follow your posts sometimes, any ideas?

Yes, what treatments and supplements have you been on?

RP, SRT, no adt, suspicious lesion 4 mm on hip bone, not sure if it is Mets , I take 4 ip6 everyday and sometimes vitamin D. Vegan with added some fish 3 times a month and active. That is all I do.

I am with you, no meat I do eat fish. Had my vitamin D3 checked, as with cancer patients, mine was low. I take 5000 i.u.'s daily. Look like you may be headed for salvage radiation.

You still have ADT drugs ahead, casodex, zytiga, xtandi, etc.. I would probably start with casodex, fewer side effects.

Just fyi, my doc at M D Anderson has me take Pomi-T (concentrated vegetable extract) and a mushroom concentrate along with my meds. They pretty much taste like dirt :) but hey, my metastases seem to be shrinking. Can't claim they are responsible but they sure don't hurt.

Good luck to you!

This is a late reply, I found this discussion using the search. Jane McLelland in "How to Starve Cancer" discusses her decision regarding Vitamin C infusions in Chapter 8. I too am curious if it has been used with regard to prostate cancer.
