Order by my daughter

OK, I've posted a few times, tried to learn the terms(OK I glanced once ) and I'm afraid to jinx my MOJO, but my daughter, who is a nurse, insited I post this for anyone in my similar state. I was diagnosed in Jan, gleason 8, 7 distant bone Mets, no organ or lyph node involvement. Uro started me on Firmagon, I I freaked, immediately made appointments with U of M, Anderson, Cleveland clinic and Karmanos (local cancer clinic of some renown ) Went to U of M, pretty much told me to chill until I become CR (that's for you code talkers ) anyway ended up at Karmanos in Detroit, started chemo in June, go to my 4th session Thursday. PSA was at 11.9 down to 2.9. Chemo so far is annoying, it's 6 hours of sitting and waiting, but who and I kidding, alternative sucks. People ask me how I'm doing, I tell them honestly, they tell me I'm sick. I can notice a bit of fatigue, but I've been fatigued my whole life. So for the newly diagnosed guys out there (I can say that, until they start transplanted prostates into women ) every one is different, this sucks, be your own advocate but trust those closest to you. Some are eating nuts and berries, God I wish I had their resolve. I take each day as a gift. I have the most amazing family (ya I know, you all think that) but I have mine certified as the greatest, sorry dudes. Believe in a higher power, pry for science to catch up to us, and stay with this forum, I make it a point to read it everyday, until I run into a post that makes me feel better than I'm done for the day. OK Kellie, how did I do?

It sounds like you have a great attitude, and have made excellent treatment choices.

Your family is more amazing than mine, I'm sure. My wife has been amazing, but other family members not so much. They worry more about me becoming addicted to painkillers and medical marijuana than whether or not I'm actually in pain. They tell me I'll go to hell unless I start believing in Jesus. Oy!

Good luck with your ongoing treatment. I had my last chemo infusion back in late March and have since gone onto Zytiga. Despite all the awful side effects you hear about I'm feeling much better and my energy is improving. When treatment works it's definitely much better than than the disease. Now if I can only get used to how much my neck sweats!

Your attitude is great, it will take you a long way into this journey. Remember, question doctors, and don't be talked into anything that doesn't sound right.

Well like your attitude, I’m going on 36 months since finding the monster, thank the big guy every morning when I wake up. Been watching and using this rag for a couple of years and still don’t understand all the abbreviations these guys use, my chemo brain won’t let me think that far. Anyhow keep up the fight , one of these days we will find a way to whip this monster. 🙏🙏🙏😡

Winger,

Great posts!! We all have our stories when dealing with this disease and I think sharing them helps everyone on this forum. Our caregivers are very important in our lives but it’s also hard for people to understand how the treatments and disease make us feel. Between hot flashes, nausea, bone pain, fatigue Etc this disease brings us surprises everyday!

After being in this journey for 5 years I’m feeling the best I have in 5 years!!

Take time to enjoy your wonderful family. May the treatments be few and effective!! This beast is tough but I think those of us going through treatment and our caregivers are tougher.
