Hi, all. I have been on Prednizone (with Zytiga, Lupron) for two years. Going "off" mid July. Prednizone, in addition to being necessary when taking Zytiga, thins the skin. My arm look like hell.
If there is a "next time" I am questioning the 10 mg per day I have followed.
So......
Who has taken Lupron, Zytiga, Prednizone and took only 5 mg per day of Prednizone?
Best Regards,
Craig

The replacement dose is 5 mg/day when used with Zytiga for mHSPC, 10 mg/day when used with Zytiga for mCRPC. Everyone is different - you may need more or less - if you want to experiment, make changes slowly and monitor potassium, BP and edema.
I'm currently taking Zytiga and 5mg of Prednisone per day as recommended by my doctor. I agree with taking 5mg, so far it's working fine for me. I did take 10mg with Docetaxel chemotherapy, but just for the first 10 days after infusion. That made a huge difference coping with side effects.
One of the big concerns I have is a potential resistance path through the glucocorticoid receptor.
There is ongoing research on this subject. Here's an article:
Taking 10mg with Docetaxel chemotherapy was short term (10 days X 6 cycles) vs. the much longer term use of Prednisone with Zytiga. I'm coming up on one year on Zytiga, hoping for much more. I'm going to keep at 5mg.
Hi there. I’ve been on Lupron (every 6 months) plus Zytiga (daily empty) and prednisone 5mg (daily w meal) since July 2017. PSA (500 in 1/17) went quickly below 1 and ND early 8/18. Had all sorts of bruising, fatigue, flashes at first. It pretty much went away a year ago but I walk 10km/day, eat healthy, rest well and do weight training to prevent muscle/bone loss (with licensed trainer and docs’ consult). Osteopenia so far is slowing down w calcium and vit D. It’s a constant effort to not lose muscle though! Feeling great and will do this course as long as current results hold. Good luck!
Allen’s answer should give you the proper standard dosage. Me? If was in your shoes, listen to your Medical Oncologist. Everyone is different with scope of disease and current treatment. For example, in 2004 I underwent a six month chemotherapy-hormone therapy clinical trial. It included 30 mg of Prednisone a day for the 180 day period.....
I wish you the best in kicking this bastard disease.
I started with 10 and went to 5 after about a year. I’m hormone sensitive. No difference for me. Interestingly I’m on a “vacation” from Lupron Zytega and prednisone as of two weeks ago and I had terrible side affects from weaning off my prednisone. Way more fatigue and malaise than the 2 years on. My workouts were a huge struggle. This lasted about 10 days and I’m just now starting to feel good now. Still on 2.5 prednisone daily (half) and will continue to wean to zero
after 21 months of treatment including lupron chemo zytega prednisone zometa Celebrex Metformin SBRT to my three mets and a resultant 1 year at between .01 and .02 PSA, I, my MO and a second opinion at Ucla thought a vacation to see if I had a long term remission or dare say a cure (there word not mine) was in order. I just did. Psma test at Ucla as a baseline to help determine any future disease progression. We shall see.
Taking 5mg Prednisone daily with Zytiga + Lupron adjunctive to HDR Brachy done last week. I break up the 5mg tablet in halves, and take over the course of the day to spread out the dose.
5 mg/day with Zytiga (mCRPC).... I'm with you in my sensitivity to Prednizone, I cannot tolerate it every day, but monitor my BP a couple of times a day. Timotur has a great idea to keep some hormone-supplement in the system by breaking tablets in half....I'm going to give it a try. Good luck. - Joe M.
I have been on Zytiga and 5 mg prednisone for 15 months, 2 year treatment. I bruise just looking at me. My MO said he didn't understand why? All the other stuff too, tired, confused. I have lost 20 lbs. 151 to 131. But I work out really hard and results are good from that. I just don't have any desire to eat. It takes almost forcing myself to eat.
I have been T and PSA undetectable for 9 months. I just fear my next PSA like all of us.
I started on 1000mg Zytiga and two doses of 5mg prednisone. I am hormone sensitive. My liver enzymes started going beyond a safe range so my MO reduced me to 750mg Zytiga and one dose with food of 5mg prednisone. So far so good - latest PSA dropped to 0.69 and enzymes back to normal. I take the prednisone with breakfast and the Zytiga at bedtime so I do not conflict with the 2 hour before and one hour after meals rules.
I take 7.5 daily and have since beginning of Zytiga therapy. I think what you are doing makes sense. What will the parameters be for “next time “ to start it again. You should see my arms. A mess. Good luck
New here. Last month my oncologist suggested dropping down to 5mg. That was four weeks ago and I feel better, over-all. I'll see the urology guy at Mayo next week and ask if I should cut it in half again (but my dream would be to be told I should discontinue Zytiga!).
