I had prostate surgery last week. My Dr. said that I had aggressive cancer in the lymph nodes. He will start me tomorrow on hormone therapy using firmagon and follow up with trelstar . Then radiation. Has anyone used this therapy before?

That sounds like a good strategy. Here's some information about it:

Welcome gamemaster34! I was beyond surgery , I did 8wks imrt,I m on a test adt drug that was cancelled but I’m still on, along with first firmagon like you then I went to Leupron then I did an orchiectomy . I’ve had no visable signs and Psa .04 for 31/2 out of 4 yrs of treatments. I feel like I’m in the “ eye” of the storm. Many side effects with castration either chemical or surgical the side effects are the same from having no “T “ . The irony of what once made us strong now feeding the flame of PC . I went through hell the initial 2 Years .. I wish you the great results that I’ve been lucky to recieve thus far from adt & RT. With luck and faith and help from above you could live decades with APC . Many have. Give it your best shot . Enjoy life and live healthy as possible .. Whatever bad habits you had ,toss them and keep active even when fatigue and overwhelmed, keep moving. You will do whatever it is that you’re called on do in order to survive. Some guys breeze through treatments with not much to do . Most of us have the same diminishing effects ... APC is a bitch . Hold you head up and concentrate on what’s good in life .

What advice have you been given about managing the side effects of the ADT? Check out LIFEonADT.com

I had an RPP 20 years ago followed by salvage RT and ADT over the next couple of years. And I'm still here.

I'm with you brother! 19 years after a radical ! I'm feeling a little heat as my PSA is now 0.27! Going back to my home town next week. Yes it's been 6 months...time for a PSA check. Trust me I will deal with the beast....

My only thing that I can share is that my wife and I eat very well. NO Junk food.We take a handful of Vitamins every morning. Coffee from our old fashioned coffee pot.

That firmagon is 10 k a shot and it worked well for me... knock pc down to the ground.. the goal is no Psa ,correct? May you fly under the radar for many years to come...

Correct no PSA !

We now see being zero as our goal... hahaha . Live well..

A Medical Oncologist that specializes in advanced prostate cancer; preferably one in academia where they have greater flexibility in treatment is the best advice that I received in 2004 from two Radiation Oncologists when asked, “If you were in my shoes, just diagnosed with metastatic prostate cancer, what would you do?”

Tackle this while your body is strong and the tumor burden minimal. Oh yes, both initially told me that ADT was standard, but I asked the above question and got a response other than standard care.

Good luck in killing the bastard. It can be done.

It may be a little early but I had my first psa sense surgery 0.66 and first T level sense firmagon was 17 !

in reply togamemaster34

I’m no Dr , but that seems good .. it’s all a “mad hatters “ type ride . We can adjust to about anything ... Peace

Pretty standard treatment and it should help. I received the same after my surgery. They have to wait for the radiation so you can heal from the surgery. The radiation is a daily inconvenience, and the hormone therapy will gradually cause fatigue, but it works so get used to it. I didn’t get a brochure though! 😊

Welcome to the APC journey! It is like Gilligan’s Island without Maryann or Ginger. 😂 Seriously, just take it one step at a time and keep asking questions and reading the links from TA. Stay Strong!

No Maryann or No ginger.? Darn .. I thought this was supposed to be only a 3 hr tour? What happened ?. Castaways...

I missed your original post a week ago. Glad I got caught up. I am a big fan of UCA in Birmingham, AL. Dr Bugg performed the RRP on me in Oct 2018. So far so good. Lucky, fortunate, and blessed -- my 1st post surgery PSA was <0.006. Next check coming up in a month. Who did your surgery? At St Vincent's?

gamemaster34 in reply tobaw1955

My surgery was performed by Dr. Burrus at Shelby Medical Center. Had my first psa post surgery and was 0.66 and T was 17. Surgery was March 19. Keep in touch. Close to home.
