I was unable to complete the Xofigo schedule of treatment- six shots- only got to 3 due to hemoglobin too low.
MO prescribed Xtandi at this point-
However says it takes about 3-4 weeks to get the drug from time of prescribing.
Have had Taxotere , Zytiga which failed at 11 months, 3 Xofigo treatments now Xtandi- but as PSA continues to rise so does pain and currently on morophine twice daily.
This site is so useful.
Who know why it takes so long to get this drug?????

Could be because Xtandi is very expensive (about $13k per month). In my case it took a month or so to get the insurance on board and negotiate with the drug company for the remaining cost not picked up by insurance. It was about a 1 - 2 month delay in getting the drug, but the end result is that I get the medication with no out of pocket expense.
I have had an excellent response to Xtandi, but I was never on Zytiga. I have heard if one of the 2 drugs fails, it is very likely the other drug will not work either. Hopefully you can get some good results with it.
You could discuss the possibility to get a PSMA pet/Ct (Ga 68 or 18 F DCFpyl) and if the metastases are avid for the ligand explore if you could qualify for Lu 177 PSMA or AC 225 PSMA treatment.
There are clinical trials for the studies and the treatments. Look in clinicaltrials.gov for prostate cancer and Ga68 PSMA, prostate cancer and 18F DCFPy, prostate cancer and Lu 177 PSMA and for prostate cancer and Ac 225 .
You could also consider the trials at Davis for enzalutamide or abiraterone and niclosamide .
I am going to go have to look at my notes. It was a speaker at the last pcri conference. I think one of his hospitals was John Wayne or Howard Hughes in LA. He did 4 of 5 patients for the original trial. Most likely when he was at Tulane with Sartor.
(When I started Xtandi, I looked it up in my drugs Insurance coverage Formulary, and found out what Tier it was, and that it required a Prior Approval for insurance coverage. I downloaded and provided those PA forms to my prescribing doctor, along with the listed phone numbers, and they handled it from there. Now I get a phone call each month to arrange a refill, and they ship to my door about a week later via overnight UPS, putting my nominal copay on my Visa card when it leaves a specialty pharmacy in another state. Once a year, the Prior Approval gets renewed.)
I order online from Kaiser. Takes a couple of days to drop ship to pharmacy where I pick up. Won't mail. A lot of $$ to be floating around in the mail. When 1st prescribed got partial supply from pharmacy. So took about half an hour from being prescribed to popping 4 $100 pill each per day. So sounds like insurance deal for you, and things will be good to go once everything's started. Good luck. 18 months in.
