Intervention radiology

I hope today is better than yesterday. My husband is in quarantine and his exploratory surgery’s showed that his selvedge prostatectomy basically just killed the chance of reconnecting the urethra and bladder together again. So going to have to figure out a new way to work the plumbing. Wasn’t impressed with their suggestions so I hope they continue to work on that. One was to keep his tubes in his kidneys for life or a super pubic catheter, no Bueno, so go back to the drawing board.

Also had a stricture they had to cut through before they could even continue.

Has been in intervention radiology since 9:30. Not sure what’s happening there, perhaps a bone scan.

Colon team found some bacteria hence quarantine, also major erosion from radiation in bowel might be some of the pain. Teaching hospital you know how it is a lot of Indians hope their are some chiefs not to far behind.

Sorry to hear of his on-going pain and complications and side effects arising from previous and current treatments. ..... This has been developing for quite a while, and may take more time to resolve. For people who are not "there", they often have no idea of the constant day-to-day issues that arise from serious urinary/bowel incontinence and functional "plumbing" issues. I hope he gets past these tough times soon.

So how are you doing, as a Caregiver? Can you tap into other sources of extended support in your local area for some respite or help? You need to take care of yourself, too, as I'm sure you know. Easy to say, but often hard to do when living it day-to-day.

Big Hugs,

Charles

Mayo may?

Highly skilled urologists at Mayo Clinic have vast experience in performing both minimally invasive and reconstructive surgical techniques to treat urethral stricture disease.

Urethral stricture expertise

Mayo Clinic urologists and their teams are highly trained, often with additional specialty training to deal with complex urethral reconstructive procedures. Mayo Clinic doctors treat more than 1,000 people with urethral strictures each year.

Nationally recognized expertise

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota and Mayo Clinic in Arizona are ranked among the best urology hospitals in the nation for 2018-2019 by U.S. News & World Report. Mayo Clinic in Florida is ranked high performing in the same report.

Good Luck, Good Health and Good Humor.

We have a appointment with head of urology mar 4th. Thank you John for the added in sight. Not for sure how Dr. Kim at Sitemens will take to us doing that though.

Also we have our regular appointments at CTCA February 5th don’t know if we will make those. With both urology and oncologist. My husbands last psa 8 weeks out from prostatectomy was 0.01 they said at Barnes Jewish (Sitemens) they did one and it was 0.14 of course I know different places but still considered undetectable! Unless he has rare kind , they said they might not do his bone scan now for his tailbone pain because of the Low PSA reading and cat scan showed no Mets there. Thank you again John.

Do not concern yourselves about Dr. Kim's feelings. I take my car to a different automobile mechanic if I feel that my current mechanic is not doing a good job. However, I still deal with my prior mechanic if need be. But I never shake his hand. I only fist bump, especially if his hand is greasy...

Very good point. I’m not for sure what to do about the primary facility (CTCA) that we had the main surgery and the same oncologist from this Dx and the last one in 2008. They know he’s in the hospital here in Saint Louis. We’re suppose to be there feb 5 , I told my husband your still here in the hospital we need to reschedule it and focus on the mayo on mar 4 for the urologist. But they give him pain blockers that help at CTCA, here at Barnes the pain managment didn’t want anything to do with that.

Sigh...You gotta do what you gotta do... Why are you seeing a urologist at Mayo instead of an Medical Oncologist? As I tell my wife sometimes "you gotta hang tough".

Since his psa is low they won’t set a appointment with the oncologist but they said once the urologist sees us and feels he needs to be on the case they will contact him then and there.
