Just got a call from our MO and dad's last PSA reading was 0.69! It has never been this low before so we're very happy with the results! We are aware that the drug won't last forever but this is a sign of a longer remission.
He started Zytiga 8 months and a half ago and the PSA always bounced up and down between 2-3 during the whole time, recently he has changed diet focusing mostly on healthy food (vegetables, fruits, fibers, etc) and is starting to feel great again.
Common side effects of Zytiga are fatigue and hot flashes but they have always been bearable.

Yay!!! Congrats to your father. My 83 yo Dad has been fighting this for 14 years!!! Has many, many bone mets since Oct, 2016 Dx metastisis. Tried same therapies as most on this forum. Once mets occured, he went strict Vegan for solid 6 months. Now has lean poultry + fish, no red meats d/t heart stent surgery in 2016, as he wasn't open heart surgery candidate d/t cancer.
Current meds are: zometa bone infusions, Lupron injection every 3 months, + X-tandi. MO increased X-tandi from I believe, 3 to 4 pills a day in Oct 2018, when PSA started to rise again. He's feeling mostly great, just hot flashes & some tiredness, but is back at the gym doing Silver Sneakers classes! His weight was 124 # and he's about 5'3-5'4". Last bone scan Oct. '18, showed mets improvement, hard for MO to say 100% if increase in mets, as there were many to count from initial DX. He is trucking along and happy with treatment for now. He has surpassed initial diagnosis of living 12-18 months.
he's 83 take him off the drugs and let him free of all those poisonings drugs. its time don't u think. i'm 72 going on my 11 year and if options have quit i have no problem ending them
Well done for your dad. I hope I can still manage to exercise if I get to 83. I am 59 and have likewise been fighting this beast for 14 years. Such stories as his give me hope.
u know a psa of 0-4.0 is normal for normal males so if his is .069 check it every month or longer. there is no cure and at some time if u keep using the same drug all the time it will quit working then u will have to try a new drug or treatment and when that stops working then another until u ran out of options then trial treatments make it as long as u can i'm starting my 11 year
Look on the bright side. The longer it takes for psa to nadair on a drug, the longer its working. For me if it takes too long I take a holiday off it. Should work again when restarted. I emphasize ( for me ) because it may be risky in some cases. The best. Rocco
10 months on Zytiga today and I'm happy to report that the PSA dropped a bit more to 0.59, oncologist predicts good results for a couple of years with the drug.
We have Xtandi (not expecting much after Zytiga but you might never know), Xofigo, Jevtana, Provenge, Radiotherapy and Lu177 waiting in our pocket and ready for the future.
