Been a ride

Has been about a month since I have written. At that time my husband had been in sever pain. It was so bad he was admitted to hospital to get his pain under control and get him comfortable so we could drive the 7 hours back to Doctor. Dr. Ordered an MRI along with scans and found a tumor on his spine at the L1. The admitted him to hospital and did emergency surgery. Pain in lower back went away. He started taking Zytiga one week ago and will start radiation on Wednesday. Has been having some side effects with meds , sweats, fatigue, arm and leg weakness. His PSA is only 1.5 but now has Mets along with the tumor. Has anyone else has such low numbers and have the cancer advance like this?

First of all I'm very glad your husband is out of the pain he was in. I hope it was a less invasive surgery. I was in severe pain involving my groin and rectal area. All involving the cysts, tumors or a mass whichever you like to call them. All while posting a PSA of 1.7. I was on morphine as well as oxycodone, and still with no relief. Finally after finishing radiation beam therapy, I hardly have any pain. But my last ct scans revealed more metastasized tumors now invading my liver and other lymph nodes. Had all of the treatments your husband has had. Now starting in two weeks a new clinical trial. I believe because of the aggressiveness of our cancer, we'll always be suffering the symptoms you mentioned. We just want them to be tolerable. I actually had a good day yesterday. Almost felt normal. But today is another story. Very fatigued. I'm actually pouring out sweat as I am replying to your post. Anyways keep posting and updating. This really is the best comfort and support system out there.

Ralph things you have posted does sound exactly like Derek. He is the same he just wants to be able to tolerate the symptoms. He also is on oxycodone. And he has pain in the groin as well. You are correct with the good days and bad. He seems to have a great day then at least 2 bad days before we have a good on again. Praying the radiation helps with the pain, and it attacks the tumor area. Goodluck to you as well.

CBD oil is really helpful for all types of pain. Non pysco active -- you can't even tell you are taking it- except it is anti inflammatory. legal in all 50 states

My husband was told he had a bladder infection in the Fall of 2014, but I asked our family doc if she would please make us an appt w a real urologist, as it takes awhile to get in. We went a month later & immediately the urologist talked the C word. Biopsy next day...doc called him at home...worst cancer he's seen..PSA under 4...set husband up with team of docs in University of Michigan. Husband had scans. Several docs told us there was nothing they could do. His cancer had spread to his lymph nodes from prostate. He was taken aside by one doc who said he may qualify for a clinical study. He did. Last year, after 2.5 years, he was taken off the secret drug. It now has a name. Ibrance. It is being marketed to women. He took Casodex & Lupron shots every 3 months. He still takes the hormone therapy which puts testosterone at bay that the cancer feeds on. He is pre puberty state, but now on Zytiga since last summer. That drug was supposed to be taken with Prednisone, which he was taken off abruptly after being put in emergency with blood sugar over 600. Docs called us on our Florida vacation. They can't believe my husband is on Zytiga without Prednisone. They think he was bedridden. He is under tremendous pain, and has went through several pain meds. More stories. He has great faith, and many are praying. He is 62. Today he is accompanying me to my colonoscopy. In 2 days we will walk in the yearly Relay for Life event. Still PDA is under 6.

What is prepuberty state????? What does that entail?????

I too, wasted 5wks with flomax from my GP ,putting off a trip to urologist. Then under the Uros care self cathing taking hyphen intered kidney failure with pc tumors shutting of urethra and bladder.. so time and inaction early on with APC can be very detrimental. Go for trials, they thoroughly test you. I’m on one. I was stage #4 gl.4+4 . I’ve had no visible signs now for 2 yrs after RT & adt.....I flipped my lifestyle to plant based no processed food or sugar.. tuff to do when you’re a foodie like me, but I feel the proper diet and nutrition are 5he things that we can control to make a difference..”The worse he’s seen” & “ nothing they can do “ That’s bullshit, the6 told me the same thing. I had tubes out of my kidnies for a yr and 1/2.. they gave me 50/50 chance to survive initial treatments and the expiration date they gave me has passed 36 month was s few months ago .. Yhey ar3 wrong . There is much that we can do for ourselves. In 5he end we are all in God’s hands. Prayers have great power and your love can heal him.. God bless, and keep the faith...

I’m sorry for the suffering.. it’s had to cope with so much suffering. My prayers for better days to increase and bad days to hit the road..
