Going to MD Anderson. Any suggestions for MO and RO ?

PSA is 0.14 after 2.3 years after radical prostatectomy. Gleason score 4+3. All margins, lymph nodes etc clear.

Thanks!!!

Why an MO? Are you considering a therapy other than salvage radiation? Have you had a Decipher test?

My Urologist would start on ADT. She also mentioned salvage radiation. She suggested a RO. I would like to talk to both. Never had Deciper test.

See if your insurance will cover it - it's expensive! It may make the difference between deciding to get salvage radiation now, or watching it longer.

I think MD Anderson throws a team at you anyway. I think doctors should be approached sequentially rather than en masse. If surgery fails, switch from Uro to RO. If salvage radiation fails, switch from RO to MO. Too many cooks spoil the broth. If SRT is your choice, do it close to home (if Houston is not your home). SRT is very common and experienced ROs can be found in most cities.

My oncologist at MD Anderson is Dr. Eleni Efstathiou, MD, PhD. She is very good. My radiation oncologist there is Dr. Chad Tang, who is probably the most caring physician I have ever met.

Hope this helps. I’ll be there in July having my prostate removed.

Best,

James

Would you care to say who is treating you in NC? I wish we had a listing of recommended MO for PCa.

My MO at MD Anderson’s Woodlands Campus is Dr Nelson. He is excellent, a good listener who consults with the urologic oncologists downtown.

He may be an excellent doctor, but he treated me like dirt. Cancelling an appointment with less than 45 minutes notice, refusing to follow through things that he had agreed to in our first meeting. No thank you.
