The Intersection of Prostate Cancer, Public Health Policy & Politics

Prostate Cancer is an all male disease. And many of the most effective treatments are unaffordable without proper insurance coverage.

Statistically 61% of white males support the Republican party. My guess is that the numbers do not change much among those of us who have prostate cancer. The Republican party seems to have a history of hostility toward public healthcare matched only by its history of hostility toward taxes. (If my premise is factually in error, I welcome factual correction from anyone).

Anyone have any ideas on how to gain more support from the Republican Party on issues of public healthcare as it relates to prostate cancer? And to mobilize males with prostate cancer into effecting such influence?

This is an important issue. Many of our brothers are currently being threatened with the effective loss of affordable access to prostate cancer treatment by the recent termination of supplemental funding for lower income patients under the Affordable Care Act.

PLEASE, let's keep this conversation civil... factual... positive... and on topic ("ideas on how to gain more support from the Republican Party on issues of public healthcare as it relates to prostate cancer?"). Thanks.

What part of no politics don't you understand? The Republican party didn't give you cancer, they can't be that non concerning."Its history of hostility toward taxes"? What does that have to do with cancer? State your case. If you want to keep things civil, LEAVE POLITICS off this blog. Form your own group, I will help you. Name it "Politics and cancer". I'm sorry you blame the Republican party for all your problems, however this group isn't the venue to express your political beliefs. This venue is about men trying to stay alive. Peddle your political beliefs elsewhere please.

Everyone here has been touched by prostate cancer, either directly or as a caregiver, family member or friend. There have been to many great men that posted on this sight to let it degrade into a political fight. There is enough of that everywhere else. I respect your opinions but please respect those of others.

I am a white male, a republican and also a person that has stage 4D1 cancer. On the other hand, in the 1960’s Hubert Humphrey used to come over to our house for discussions (I was quite young when this happened).

As someone with a disease that will eventually kill me, I have strong opinions on the state of our health system. I do not share them here as I think it would be inappropriate. Let’s just say that they are not the same as yours. Based on your past replies I kind of know how you are going to reply to this note. Just know that I pray for everyone here, no matter their political opinions.
