New to site. Diagnosed at 50.

New to this site. January of 2016 had a PSA of 6 (found after normal blood test at age 50). Biopsy showed 8 out of 12 samples were positive.

Gleason score 4+3. Stage T3a. Had Radical Prostatectomy on Feb 17, 2016.

Decipher Test showed high risk of recurrence so had 38 treatments of radiation 6 months after surgery. Finished radiation 11/1/16. IMRT. No detectable PSA since surgery. Now I go in every 3 months.

During surgery, nerves were spared but not able to have erections still. On Cialis and using pump daily. Hope that comes back soon but I know everyone reacts differently.

I'm sorry to here about your Dx. I don't like to use your case as an example but, this just proves, I think, that men should have PSA's done earlier than 50.

Are you on any form of ADT? If so, it may be a long haul. Next Saturday is my seventh anniversary, I was also Dx at 50. I've been on ADT from the get go, I didn't have surgery since it was already out of the prostate. Over time I got used to not having sex. Both heads are doing just fine, although I'd rather have it the other way around.

Thank you for your reply. No, I am not on any ADT. Just got engaged last night. So I found an amazing woman who met me before my cancer and is dealing with all the issues of surgery/recovery. I know I am lucky. Merry Christmas.

You might think about adjunctive chemo (short course) to wipe out any micro-metastasis floating around. I say this is that I also had a PSA of 6.2 and a Gleason 7 (4+3) and developed mets within a year......

Sounds like you are in a good place as far as your Gleason score and post Op PSA. I am 57 and was diagnosed last March with a Gleason score of 9 (5 + 4). My PSA was about 6 but my PSA acceleration was the red flag.

I have had a robotically assisted radically prostatectomy with one out of fourteen local tested lymph nodes testing positive. I am T2c N1 M0. I have undergone sixe treatments of Docetaxel with two 3-month Lupron injections. (Based on the "Stampede" Clinical Trial conducted in the UK) I am awaiting my final PSA but it has been at about 0.01 - 0.1 until now, depending on the sensitivity of the lab testing..

I think your lower PSA is a good sign. Don't know about the radiation protocol but it sounds like an "insurance run". The younger age groups from 40 - 65 tend to have the most aggressive PC. However, I have read many positive articles from studies that show the potential for a long full life.

Hang in there on the ED. From what I have heard, it can take a while. I have pursued it only minimally due to the treatments and that I was already experiencing ED for quite a while prior to getting prostate cancer.

Staying in the "Now" and enjoying every moment is what is most important to me. I Expect to have quite a bit of time yet tp spend with granddaughters, see my daughter get through med school and my youngest find her way through college and into a happy life.

Take care and enjoy life with or without ED. You have new lease, so move in and enjoy!
