ADHD & Coping Skills

One of the things I'm trying to really concentrate on are coping skills. I’ve identified 5 areas I need to be more cognizant of and am really pushing myself to pursue.

1. Time Management- I'm getting better in this department by finding apps, a good calendar, and techniques I can easily use throughout the day.

2. Mindfulness/Meditation- I'm clueless here. I've reached out to a friend to learn more and can add it here later.

3. Structured Routines- I know! I know! Those of us with ADHD rebel against structure; but, I've learned how much easier my life is, and how much more I can get done, with a structured life. Time Managementt skills go along with this, and man am I happier the more structured I make myself- and I too used to fight structure.

4. Physical Activity- like I've mentioned here before, I love to get out and walk. I've even set a goal for the number of steps I need to take in a day, a week, and for the year. Not only do I feel better, I use that time to clear my head, make important decisions, and wear away the stressors of the week.

5. Positive Reinforcement- I'd love to say I receive these at work, but I'd be lieing. My bosses love to belittle folks and make themselves seem superior to everyone else. I'm looking to move on, but have decided that they belittle others because of their own insecurities and shortcomings; so, they're no better than anyone else, they just have a title; and, its us that get the work done, not their clueless butts. I also try to always to end each day of work with something positive said to a co-worker. It makes them feel better, and that always seems to make me feel better too.

Thoughts? Comments? Any suggestions?

Really good! Some goals, with enough clarity to actually convert into action. You've got mind, body and soul all catered for.

look up meditation for adhd. I’ve heard of walking meditations. It’s basically walking to be mindful. DBT may be beneficial too.
