Big Ideas

My ADHD manifests in easily being distracted and not staying on task. Medication seems to address that fairly well. Emotional regulation is another aspect of my ADHD and a major symptom of my PTSD, which in my case may be related to the ADHD. DBT offers some ways to address emotional dysregulation.

But I also have poor executive function skills, for which I have not found a treatment. I keep getting stymied by larger projects and long range goals, or what I call Big Ideas or Vision. People tell me to break it down into smaller steps. That is not easy for me. Does anyone have suggestions or experienced aids, treatments, therapies to address that?

When people say to break it down into small steps, that still means you have to pick one big project. That can be the hardest part!!!!! Here's what i learned from a book...just try it out, even just as an experiment, pick one project and write down things about what it will take. Like is there anything you need to buy for it? Anyone's help you will need to have? Do you have the space or place for it (garage, big table, comfy chair or whatever is needed)? When will you work on it? You can change these answers as you go along but these may make it easier to get started with then writing down the very next thing you need to do for this project. And can be stupid basic like "grab the book I'm going to read," "clear the space on the floor or table," "gather a pen and paper and measuring stick so you have them ready to put next to whatever you want to measure." Basically it's about how to make the project easier for you to make progress. You could also do a little scoping like this for more than one project which may help you decide which project is the best to start with. Just one idea for how to break something into small steps. This has worked for me in the past. Do you think it might help you?

look into the you tube channels and their books (the audio ones are voiced by the authors too). Holderness family (book is adhd is awesome), how to adhd (book by same name) and he adhd_love couple (books are small talk and dirty laundry). I do some of those things to help me along.

It sounds like you are struggling with "patience" and "frustration tolerance" issues. You also could find videos online for these topics.
