Premenopause, ADHD,psychological mess..what is going on?

Good morning everyone! It's a humbling moment when I see myself declining or regressing! I was diagnosed with ADHD in Jan.2024 and started on stimulants currently on Vyvanse 20mg every other day. Got some ADHD coaching . There is an improvement in memory and focus. However, my social/emotional/ communication skills are bad! I do not believe myself anymore because I discovered that I was blind to the reality facts! I discovered how confusing and unclear conversation I had/have and how I don't really understand what is being said to me! My anxiety, and stress started to increase again( I'm in meds for anxiety) so because of my age my doctor told me that premenopause is messing me psychologically rather than physically and she started me on HRT. Guess what? Depression kicked in and bleeding also!

While I'm in this roller coaster my marriage ( now almost 4 years) which was already strained and on a rollercoaster started to be very painful to my husband! My understanding of his emotions is not good plus I have no clue what should I do to reconcile!

When I look back like 10 or 15 years ago, I was totally another woman! Where did myself go? Who I'm now?

I'm trying to get a full-time psychological assessment to see if there is something else!

Life doesn't stop her surprises! We human beings should be humble as we are under the mercy of some chemicals that could steal our moral values even without knowing it's happening.

I literally just did a newsletter on this for my VA business. Perimenopause GREATLY increases ADHD "symptoms". There is a huge link between hormones and the impact of ADHD.

As someone who has gone through it (it's what led to my diagnosis) I can tell you that it will eventually get better, however, that doesn't help you in the now.

What I would suggest, and this is based on my experience and research, is that you don't leave your HRT to a general physician. It's not their specialty and they'll just try whatever meds are the current favorite - it won't be customized to your specific hormonal situation. If at all possible, see a gynecologist or even better, someone who specializes in hormones. The "ideal" would be having your hormone levels tested to see what you need and don't need, but I know that's not always an option. Just throwing hormones at you and hoping they fill the gap is a hit or miss process that can actually make things worse.

My doctor put me on HRT and I almost ran a man off the road with all 4 of my children in the car because I was raging. Scared the hell out of me and I got off them. I did LOADS of research on hormones and the synthetic hormones have their own sets of problems and symptoms. I found the most relief using bio-identical hormone therapy (synthetic hormones are not bio-identical to what your body naturally produces). It came in a compounded cream and helped me immensely. It relieved me of the symptoms (hot flashes, night sweats, etc.) AND helped clear up the brain fog and made me feel "normal" (normal for me anyway) again.

I am so sorry you're going through this and I truly wish you and your marriage all the best.

My comprehension is going down lately too, and I am 41. I should check to see if I have premenopause. I recently started stratera and its keeping me from becoming overly emotional, which is big for me.
