Intro and Thanks

Hello all,

I'm new here and want to say hi. I've been trolling a bit to check out this site and I appreciate what others have posted. There is a lot of info here for me to take in. Not good for folks like us but I'm going to weed through things.

I have not had an official diagnosis but it has been suggested by therapists over many years that I look into ADD. What you all are talking about, and others that I've looked up, is very much what I'm going through. In fact I was just watching Brain King this morning here: youtube.com/watch?v=wNYR8Ta...

talking about time blindness. I had bookmarked this video months ago and came across it again today. When I first watched it it didn't really make sense. But as I've read about it more from the posts here now I get it!

I am also glad to see discussion of non-med remedies. I really don't want to get into meds so I'm going to try the supplements and suggestions first.

Lastly, I would like to ask people here if this sounds familiar: I obsessively 'play' a song over and over in my head. I'm a musician, so it kind of fits why it's music. But this happens constantly and drives me crazy when I have to concentrate on something. I happens in the middle of the night when I wake up to shift in bed or go to the bathroom. This is only one symptom I have, but thought I'd start there.

Thank you all for being here!

Welcome to the forum in the community!

Many of us have had experiences like that with music playing in our heads in an endless loop. I'm certain that we've had at least a few conversations about that phenomenon on this forum.

Yeah, we've got a lot going on here. There are many different ways that ADHD can affect someone, so many variations between the hyperactive-impulsive and the inattentive aspects of ADHD.

~~~~~
For instance, time blindness is just one way in which our sense of time can be an issue. For me, the relative rate of speed at which time passes can vary greatly. Before I started on ADHD medication*, in the same afternoon I could experience an hour seeming to contract to five minutes and five minutes, or five minutes expanding to seem like an hour.
*(Perhaps medication isn't the best treatment for everyone with ADHD. In my case, medication was essential to improving my quality of life, and my capability to get things done at work and at home. Even with the meds, I still experience regular variation in time sense, but not as often and not as extreme. I also experience the mental music playing only about half as much as before.)
Welcome! As you've already seen, there are a lot of experiences and methods to work with ADHD available here. I've been made aware of resources which I didn't know about by others in this forum.
The mental music has been playing in my head as far back as I can remember. It can be a classical tune, a pop song, even a TV ad that burns its way in and stays for an hour or a week. My brain responds to music emotionally, so I guess it's making dopamine when it plays for itself up there. It sure can be inconvenient when I'm trying to concentrate/focus. So your symptom certainly resonates with me (pun accidental, but it works!) My dreams also have sound tracks.
Keep checking in, and let us know how you're doing.
