Pomodoro Technique

Buried within another post, I mentioned this technique, but never took the time to thoroughly investigate it; so, today I’d like to dive a little deeper into it and it’s application for someone w/ADHD.

Because of how easily I get distracted, I have to use it for everything- cleaning my room, responding to emails, and even get my butt started writing on these. I know I need to get my thoughts out, and know, once I get started the words will easily flow, but it’s that darn getting started that kicks my butt.

So, any time I need to start something I set the timer on my phone to 20 minutes. I work for the aforementioned time, then give myself a 5 minute break. I then start the process over.

While it’s taken me months to program my brain to do this every time, it’s beginning to become a habit. And, I do have to admit that once I get started, I tend to hyperfocus and the 20 minutes fly by.

Does this work for you, or is there something else you do? Please let me know!
