concerta to xaggitin experience

Hi all,

I have been diagnosed with ADHD, and I was initially on Strattera, but I didn’t feel it was doing all that much for me. It was a little effective, but nowhere near what I need.

I wanted to try a stimulant and initially wanted to try Vyvance, but I couldn’t as I took Citalopram (for anxiety). I weened myself off Citalopram, and wasn’t feeling anxious and was managing well. Whilst weening off Citalopram, I was put on Concerta XL and worked up to 54mg. Initially it seemed to work, but still wasn’t up to where I expected. I didn’t have any major side effects at this point and my anxiety was fine.

Due to supply issues I’m now on Xaggitin XL, which I was assurred is it the same drug, but a different brand. Since taking it I’ve felt a lot more anxiety and feels like it makes me restless and isn’t helping my ADHD. Some days are better than others, but I can feel it kicking in (I couldn’t with Concerta) and it is making my heart feel heavy, and I’m pretty sure it’s the contributor to my anxiety. Has anyone else experienced major differences between Concerta and Xaggitin?

At my next appointment, I’m going to try and be put on Vyvance. Has anyone switched from Concerta/Xaggitin to Vyvance? And what was your experience like?

TIA

Concerta XL and Xaggitin XL are both long-acting methylphenidate medications. I've read that different pharmaceutical companies use different means of extending the effect of the medication.

They have the same active ingredient but the difference in your experience with them would be due to the different formulations and/or delivery mechanisms.

Vyvanse has a completely different active ingredient: Lisdexamfetamine. It is in the same family of medications as Adderall. So, your experience may be completely different with it.

I don't have experience with any methylphenidate medications, or with Vyvanse. The only stimulant ADHD medication I've ever taken was Adderall XR, and I changed from that to a non-stimulant, atomoxetine (a generic of Strattera).

Generics can also have a different effect than brand name medications, because they are different formulations.

People here can relate their own experience with medications, but each person's response to the same medication can vary from each other.

Definitely discuss options with your doctor, and maybe with your pharmacist, too.
