I need help with something...

I have an essay that I have to write and technically it should have been done yesterday. The problem I have is that it has to do with Discourse communities and specific jargon/ codewords within that community. I was thinking about doing ADHD seeing as I have it and I can relate to it, but the problem is that there is no jargon that people really use. I was also thinking about doing it with a tv show, but the same problem has occurred. I have tried about 20 different topics that I am interested in and they all come up dry. Is there anyone that has an idea? I'm starting to panic and have no clue what to do. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

1) Is the requirement for the essay that it be about jargon?

2) Is it a requirement that it be about Discord groups/channels?

I am new to Discord, and I'm only on two Discord servers (and they're both for ADHD: the first is "How to ADHD", and the other is "ADHD Hangout").

I'm still playing catch-up on Discord -specific jargon.

However, I've been on ADHD forums, following ADHD YouTube channels and podcasts, reading ADHD books and websites for the last 3 years ... That was how long ago that I started seeking a diagnosis. (I was diagnosed almost exactly 2 years and 6 months ago.) So, I've got the ADHD jargon down pretty well.

It's kind of a requirement that the group has jargon. And yes, it's a requirement that it has to be a Discord group of some sort. There are two things that I have to look for specifically and one of them is the language that the group uses. Do they use words or "codes" that someone looking into the group from an outside perspective wouldn't know? That kind of thing. I also have to figure out if there are "old-timers" (those who have been in the group for a long time) and "new-timers" (those new to the group) and how they interact.

Well, as for the two Discord groups the I mentioned...

The HowToADHD Discord server membership is for Patreon supporters of the HowToADHD YouTube channel.

I can send you an invite to the ADHD Hangout Discord server via chat, if you like.

That would be great. Thank you so much for your help

I sent the invite via chat earlier, since I knew I was going to be busy at work and then picking up my kids afterwards.

I hope that your jargon research and the essay writing go well!

Rastafarian English ... the dialectric of the ultimate discourse community born out of the need to rebell against truly oppressive authority - in my opinion.

Student lingo and references today are foreign to the world outside.

How about kitchen and waiter lingo in a restaurant?

Any contractor and his/her individual tradesman he hires

language of any professional mileu; stock brokers, engineers, nurses on the floor, docs and Operating room staff, geek squads, etc. they all have their own discourse community.

Not what you're looking for?
