Hi there, I am a 22 year old female studying finance in college in NYC. I’ve had ADHD my entire life. I struggled with school (specifically math), sports, friendships and memorization because I couldn’t stay on task, and I always had so many different interests but often would get bored and lose focus. I always felt misunderstood because everyone would get 100’s on their exams and I would be happy with a 65. I have been fully diagnosed with ADHD as of september after realizing ADHD was negatively affecting my relationships. I started medication for the first time in september. I was put on 18mg of concerta, it did absolutely nothing but give me anxiety. I’ve now switched to 30mg of vyvanse, my side effects have been mixed; anger, anxiety, dry mouth, dry eyes. Some days I don’t feel it working at all, some days it works for maybe an hour or so. Not really understanding the science behind this drug. Does anyone have similar experiences?

Vyvanse 30mg not working?
Hello, I’m sorry you’re going through this. It is of course important to let your doctor know about these things you have shared. This information is what helps them determine what medication to give you.
Are you seeing a regular primary doctor or a psychiatrist? I highly recommend a psychiatrist because they are so specialized. They have more knowledge.
There is also a genetic test kit that can be given to you by a doctor (cotton swab to the cheek and mail in) that gives them information of how your body metabolizes medication. It helps them zero in quicker on what medication may work for you. There are several of these kits out there. The one our doctor used for our daughter was Genomind. It was around $400 but insurance covered it.
Best to you!
