Hello-new here. 46 yo mom recently diagnosed with w ADHD I attentive type coupled with ongoing depression. Taking Vyvanse 50mg and Wellbutrin 150 XL. Combo seems to really help with mood and motivation, but I cannot sleep--at all!
I can't take melatonin bc it triggers RLS for me. I have tried all the go-to meds: Gabapentin, trazadone and topamax made me horribly sleepy/zoned out next day (canceled effects of Vyvanse&Wellbutrin) and clonidine didn't help and caused major hair loss.
Years ago I was only on Wellbutrin and took Ambien for the insomnia it caused. Worked well, but fearful of it's addictive qualities and maybe too extreme since I have small children that I need to hear at night!
Also used to take adivan (sp?) for evening anxiety and it helped with sleep. Wondering if I should ask doctor this? Or, is it also too habit forming?
Has anyone else experienced this? I am desperate...I don't know how I can function without sleep...I feel.so unhealthy! Don't want.to.change my meds bc it is the first combo to work (tried just about all the SSRI's and SNRI's without success, and focalin made me very tired).
Any feedback is so welcomed and appreciated.

Yes, I was definitely activated on Wellbutrin. And adding vyvanse to the mix would double the problem because they both get lots of epinephrine (adrenaline) into your brain, keeping you wired into the wee hours. You might want to consider either dropping one or the other or lowering one or both doses. You could also ask to try a short-acting stimulant instead, like adderal. In any case, bring the matter up with your prescriber - perhaps they will have a creative solution. And good luck! I hope you find the right fit.
Hi there, I have Inattentive adhd. I highly recommend taking either L-Tryptophan or L-Theanine before bed. Both of these help with the neurotransmitter Serotonin which deals with multiple things including mood and sleep. The supplement R-Alpha Lipoic Acid (RALA) helps the brain with the neurotransmitter Acetylcholine, which deals with multiple things including deep sleep.
I've read mixed things about Sam-E. I tried it personally a few years back and felt the effects were inconsistent and left me feeling emotionally down. It works great for some though.
I take topamax at nite. At first I did feel like a zombie. I call it the stupid drug because I swear there were times I could not remember how to spell my name. After about 2 months the side effects totally left and now I love it. Mood stabilizer, just enough to help me get drowsy. On the other hand I have a hard time with Wellbutrin. It does not give me alertness but more of a anxiety (teeth clenching kind of thing) I take Vyvanse as well, Short acting meds could be a good idea. You have more control. I take a supplement called 5HTP which you can get anywhere. It is a neurotransmitter Support and believe it or not a Vit D that is a gel cap you take once a week. Large dose and it helps a lot too. Not much help, sorry but I do know where you are coming from.
That was a lot of help--thank you! So glad you found something that works. I bought some CBD oil and it has been a miracle--I have been getting restful sleep since the first time I took it. So grateful!
I've had a really hard time getting to sleep the past few nights (falling asleep between 4 and 6am). Your note has made me think that it might coincide with upping my Vyvanse from 40 to 50 mg. I'm also on Wellbutrin. Doesn't seem like an extra 10 mg of Vyvanse could make such a big difference, but maybe it is!
