Finally trying meds

Hi my name's Ethan and I'm 30yrs old tomorrow. I just got diagnosed about five minutes ago after about 2yrs of making/missing appointments, losing therapists reports and just simply forgetting about ADHD completely for months at a time.

I just got a script for 5mg dexys and I just wanted to post here partly because I'm a bit excited and noones at home to yell at about it all, also partly because I want to document how it all goes starting right now!

Time to get medicated and see what all the fuss is about :)

I've read alot of posts on this site about what to expect from other ADHD's (couldn't think of a better collective term) but my plan at the moment is to try to go about my days as normal.

Not going to get my hopes up or expect anything intensely drastic or life changing, but I can't squash the feeling that this is a big deal and this is the part of the journey that things have a high potential for change.

Ahhh I'm excited!!

Glad you have your answer. What does your medicine stand for, I am not familiar with it.

Thank you! Dexys is short for Dexamfetamine :)

Thanks. I hope the medication works. I used to take Strattera, but I had some side affects that were scary. I became befuddled and slow. Since I am already befuddled a lot, it was unpleasant. My uncle had to come rescue me in Central Park. I then switched to Celexa which was a lot better. It didn't stop the anxiety, nor did I have total focus but I think it was better looking back. Now, as we speak there is drilling which I can hear perfectly with out the window open. It is horrible.

This is a big deal! This could truly be life changing for you! Just be aware that your 1st Rx may not have the results you would like or expect. It may not be the right one for you as an individual. You may have to go through several types and dosages to find the right combination for you. So, if need be, keep trying. But I hope the Rx the Dr gave is exactly what you need.

Thank you :))Yep I'll keep that in mind, theres a possibility that they may not work for me but I'll keep trying if these ones don't work out for me.

So true my son i think went through all til he got 25 mg Adderall and 10 mg in evening. That was him for years. I mean he went through patches an tons of pills. We was told by a Dr to wrap patches in toilet paper bc people was taking them out of trash cans and eating them. Craziest thing I ever herd. Good luck don't give up. I am recently going back to Drs because first one didn't work now it's been months waisted that is definitely part of the adhd i can keep up on everyone but myself not sure why

Thank you :) Yeh the diagnosis process is ironically not very ADHD friendly I've noticed haha

My therapist did some screenings recently that confirmed my suspicion of ADHD and on Monday I go to a psychiatrist for a more formal evaluation and medication consultation. I've heard it can sometimes take a few different Rx treatments to find the right one for any given person, so it sounds smart to not have any expectations for anything drastic and to just keep an open mind and see what happens. I've been trying to mentally prepare for whatever course of action may get set next week and will most likely be joining you on this journey soon. Wishing you the best!

I was already on a low dose of Wellbutrin, which is a mild antidepressant. He initially upped the dose on that to its max over two weeks and it didn't change much of anything, so last week I started Zoloft. He said I could take them both together or drop the Wellbutrin, so at least for now, until the Zoloft gets up to a full dosage I'm staying on both. I don't feel a substantial change yet, but am just glad that nothing's gone haywire and I'm not feeling adverse effects. Since I'm battling some depression right now, he felt these options were best to start with rather than some of the more prevalent ADHD-focused meds because some of those can actually worsen depression, and he said these should both also help with ADHD, so we'll see. I'm focusing on staying patient for now!
