Possibly looking for an accountability person.

Hi all, I’m toying with the idea of looking for an accountability partner, but I find whenever someone tells me I need help or points it out, my natural response is getting defensive and feeling like all my hard work means nothing. My mom just reminded me to do something. And I’m considering asking her to do it, but I’m a little worried about it, I can get defensive and I worry I’ll push her away. I’ve toyed with the idea of having a friend of mine do it. But I’m still not sure. I want it to be someone I know well, either my mother, or a good friend. My biggest fear is I will get defensive and then I’ll push someone away and I’ll try to no avail to fix it, and making amends will result in me doing something I don’t want to and feeling real frustrated and it’ll cloud my entire judgment for awhile. Of all my emotions I HATE frustration. I hate embarrassment too, but frustration is the worst. And I always worry about getting there because I have before and it sucks. But I suppose there’s no getting around it. What are some tips about picking someone to help hold you accountable?

Do you have a therapist? Along with meds I find CBT & other therapy modalities helpful. Medicine for rejection sensitivity dysphoria (which can come from having ADHD) like intuniv can help too. Your doc can help. Look it up & see if feel RSD pertains to you & bring it up to your doctor/therapst

You're welcome. I find the meds help my mood. I'm more flexible, less sensitive and frustration level is much better. Good luck.

Find someone who also needs to reach a goal of some kind and you can help her/him at the same time. This holds both of you accountable for yourselves and each other.
