I wanted to know if anyone has seen improvement with their ADD/ADHD when they changed their eating habits in a specific way. How did you change your eating habits? Did you gravitate towards plant-based or did you start consuming more animal-based products?
Both my son and I have found that a clean diet with protein and lots of fruits and vegetables has provided the most relief. The thing with us is we get so focused that when we get on the carb and sugar loaded spiral, we get hangry when the carbs wear off and have trouble sleeping. I highly recommend well balanced clean meals and limit the processed stuff. I have created a shopping and a meal planning list so when I go to the store I only buy what is on the list and manage the menus for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It's a bit of work but it keeps me honest. Good luck and be well.
I have, without really any dramatic changes. Here's what I did:
- Reduced sugar very dramatically
- No sweet beverages or juices
- Almost stopped bread and similar (never realized before it makes sleepy in minutes)
- Have a bowl of nuts always available (no dry fruit, except a date or two when needed)
- Reduced coffee to one cup, drank over 2-3 hours in the morning
- Replaced pm coffee with tea
- Drink enough water, morning then through the day (not evening, it wakes me up...)
- Morning breakfast: peanut butter inside 3-4 slices of turkey, no bread (weird, I know, but yummy) + fruit
... results for me work really well. Not sure if it would make a big difference alone though (started a 3 minute jog in morning, growing to 10+ minutes + some yoga etc, + learnt to meditate, and finally, I decided to add medication...)
Same as the other comments, I feel good on a clean diet (I'm more steady, without extreme highs and lows, and I'm a little less foggy brained) but ots definitely not a cure all, but a very good step, for sure.
I’ve been eating impulsively and have gained 25 pounds the heaviest ever can’t get into my slacks I’m didisgusted and I’m attempting with baby steps to change this situation.
My appetite was suppressed. I lost some weight. But I’m at a healthy weight.
