Hey knowledgeable friends! I've been considering the Amen Clinic for my partner's ADHD evaluation. While we're not planning to go as far as the SPECT scans (I've read enough mixed reviews and/or advice not to get them), I'm interested in their basic evaluation process which seems very thorough and will factor in my observations. I haven't read anything negative about using the Amen Clinic for regular clinical evaluation and treatment plan advice. Oh, our ADHD coach refers patients to the Amen Clinic for evaluation and we really like our coach so far! Please, please, please don't hold back opinions good or bad. Thank you!! Hope everyone is hanging in there this week.
What do you think about the AMEN CLIN... - CHADD's Adult ADH...
What do you think about the AMEN CLINIC? Thoughts? Pros? Cons?
I was thinking of posting a question about Dr. Amen, since my therapist likes him a lot, but here it's been 4 months and no one's replied to you! Did you wind up going?
Hi wiggity_whack! I'm also curious as to why no one has replied to this post. Seems a little odd to me, but I decided not to read anything into it... We did wind up going through the Amen Clinic (virtually) for my husband's ADHD evaluation, thanks for asking! Generally, the experience was good. Like yours, our therapist highly recommended the Amen Clinic and that's how I found out about it in the first place. My only caution would be to build a rapport with one member of staff over time (if possible) because there were times (when I got routed to other members of staff) and I felt like the representative was trying to "sell" a "package" from a "menu" of options...and we don't have a lot of money to just buy in to anything! I'm not sure if that makes sense or not. Basically, I got to know one member of staff and they got to know our specific set of circumstances and I think that enable us to customize our procedures and shave down the costs a bit. My husband is in his 40s and I'm in my 30s so there's a lot that we knew about him and ADHD going into the evaluation process. While I don't agree with every point of Dr. Amen's "philosophy" on ADHD, coupled with the scientific research of other experts, I felt confident going with his clinic. Overall it seemed affordable and flexible...oh, and the doctor that did the evaluation and met with us afterwards (virtually) to explain the results was truly excellent and well worth our time! Let me know if you have any thoughts or questions! Thanks again!
Thanks for getting back to me! I've tried a bunch of ADHD meds (never had a formal evaluation though) and absolutely nothing works. Trying cannabis right now, still nothing (but I'm taking a low dose). I wondered if it was worth it because I don't want to spend money on something I'm unsure about, but if there's an option I can do remotely that's low cost (although I guess I'd have to go in for the evaluation) I'd be willing to try.
