Hi guys! So I finally got on my ADHD medicine today because it took a while to get a doc appointment and I'm on 40mg of vyvanse. I'm noticing that I feel like I'm very hyper aware and moving from thing to thihng and I thought vyvnase was supposed to slow you down. Anyone else experience something similar or have any advice? Thanks!

When you say you're moving from thing to thing, does it feel frantic or disorganized? Are you completing each task?

Vyvanse and other stimulants don't always slow you down. They can help you be more productive. Part of that can be due to calming some of the internal stuff like restlessness or racing thoughts. How does your thinking feel? Are you more focused? Are you having trouble holding on to thoughts?

In some cases medication can be activating and make things worse. 40 mg is a relatively high dose to start at, so it could be that it needs to be adjusted too.

I've just starting my ADHD medication about 1 month ago. It started off as 10mg of Focalin (but I take the generic dexymetholine - spelling may be wrong).

Now I've been moved up to 20mg. The 40mg sounds like a high number to me for a starting dosage. But, maybe the doctor determined that is what you need to start off with at this time.

As quietlylost says below, ADHD medication does not always slow you down. The 20mg for me has helped calm my racing thoughts and allowed me to focus more on completing tasks. But, all ADHD meds are stimulants, so perhaps your amount of mg needs an adjustment.

40 is a fairly high starting dose. Same thing happened to me so we dropped to 20 (had to break apart the capsule and roughly measure) for a week then upped to 30 for a month. I've just gone back to 40 and it feels much better that it did at the start.

You should have a chat to your doc.

I’m also on Vyvanse. It’s been a great alternative to Adderall for me. I do understand that feeling of moving from one thing to the next quickly. Somehow I don’t mind it because it is in a productive way and it seems like I eventually finish all of the tasks I’m taking on.

For example, cleaning my house, I’ll be simultaneously cleaning the whole house, going from one thing to the next, finding something in one room to take care of then something else. I feel more determined to do things with focus instead of too many things to do without focus.

I’m only on the 30 I’ve tried all the way up to 60. I think I prefer 40-50. Anyway that’s my story if you want to discuss it more I’d me more than happy to.

Quick question...you mentioned Vyvanse has been a good alternative for you to Adderall and I'm wondering if it might be for me as well. I was prescribed a low dose of Adderall and it actually calmed me, brought my resting heart rate down and it was great. However, I also felt like I was in a bit in a trance...sort of just loopy. I was constantly hungry, I was super talkative but just didn't feel right in general. I'm wondering if Vyvanse might be better or if a different stimulant family is the route to go. Didn't know why Vyvanse was better for you than Adderall. Thanks so much!

That’s really interesting. I experienced and increase in HR with adderall and decreased appetite. I get the trance feeling. It was good for me because at the time I was in school so I could get my work done. I feel a similar concentration with Vyvanse but not as zombie like. I hope that helps.

Yes! I'm so glad I'm not the only one! It's like as soon as something enters my head I have to do it right then! My main issue was getting super overwhelmed because I couldn't figure out where to start on projects or whatever, and then I just wouldn't do anything. It feels nice to actually be doing/accomplishing things now, but sometimes I feel like I'm on overdrive! It helps if I write down everything I have to do, then put it in order based on what makes the most sense, then just work through the list.
