New Research Suggests Untreated ADHD Reduces Life Expectancy

Wooh untreated ADHD reduces life expectancy by about a decade?

Over the years I have been surprised by how many medical professionals still refuse to accept ADHD as a valid diagnosis. Now it appears as though they are literally putting our lives at risk by refusing to help or referring us to someone who knows what the heck they are doing.

Well, the naysayers will say that ADHD's reduced life expectancy is from doing stupid shit. Which, broadly, it is. We drive recklessly more often, make up like 80% of smokers, and have a significant presence in the addicted and obese populations. WE know it's because our impulse control issues could be treated if the condition would be taken seriously, but most people still just think it's a matter of willpower and discipline. The world would be a much safer, more productive place if we could all just erase that mentality of blaming everything on a person's character. ADHD and addiction stem from real changes in the brain, yknow? I wish people would acknowledge that.

No doubt. Not to mention with some of those behaviors others would be effected. ADHD folks also make up a large part of the prison population. Saving a hundred bucks on making sure someone gets the help they need is a whole lot less expensive than spending thousands a day to keep them locked up. Not to mention that individual could be a contributing member of society and that's what I thought we were going after.

Our country needs to stop doing things in the dumbest way possible.
