School and ADHD

I think we all can agree that school is one of the biggest challenges with our ADHD and for all my life that's certainly been the case. See when I was younger I never fully grasped the more serious aspects of ADHD, and it never clicked to me until I was 21 years of age. But I've always wanted more than ever was to focus on schoolwork, which was difficult for me to do because I was always distracted or needed to be taught under specific circumstances for me to grasp the subject matter currently being taught.

As I've gotten older I'm certainly more aware of my issues and can pick up on things easier after I learn them. However I still need the concepts explained more to get them I am a visual learner, so I won't be able to pick up on things easily by just reading them. I'm currently in University, but doing online schooling. Which has been a fun experience, but has been a huge struggle at the same time.

For one being left alone more and limited ways to access help doesn't exactly do me a lot of favors and have to resort to searching for help a lot, which I dislike doing. It also doesn't help that the internet itself proves as a distraction. College of itself has proven more of a challenge than it should be. I know it sounds silly, but it's difficult for me to work under such limited conditions. And with the pressure of not having to fail because I have to pay a huge balance (which I also can't afford to pay off) makes everything so much worse

Don't get me wrong I do enjoy the experience, but why does ADHD have to make learning conditions so difficult? Does anyone else experience this problem?

I think everyone with ADHD - myself included - wishes at times our brains were not so complex. As far as learning and growing older with ADHD, you learn yourself and how you best function and learn - not necessarily the way the majority tackles new situations. So, although it becomes more manageable, it's a challenge. Now, view that challenge as an adventure and it can be fun.

If you think it hampers school, try a career that requires intense focus and continual demands to complete work far more complex than others realize it is in less time than would be realistic to estimate!
