I am still pretty new here, and I recently switched from methylphenidate to Vyvanse to help my battle with ADHD. I have done some research to prepare myself for what I might expect with this new med (also in addition to other meds I currently take for other conditions.) Among several medications I have been prescribed, the one that gets mixed reviews for how it balances with Vyvanse is Gabapentin. I am on Day 4 of Vyvanse, and I have taken my Gabapentin differently each day, not sure what is good to do and what is a hinderance to the Vyvanse'spotency. Does anyone know how Gabapentin and Vyvansework together? Doing a basic internet search gives me mixed reviews... "It cuts its potency in half" "it extends the Vyvanse longer" "it makes you tired, so take it at the end of the day" "it's an acid trip" etc... I know everyone is different and when it comes down to it, I have to rely on my on body chemistry and how I know it processes medications, but I don't want to take one thing, then take something else that makes the first thing stop working and get no benefit from either one. (And I'm certainly not looking for an acid trip) I want my Vyvanse to be effective and work at peak performance, so if my Gabapentin (taken for hip & severe lower back pain) is getting in the way, I don't want to take it in conjunction with Vyvanse. I just want to know how best to take these meds and what the effects are when taken together.
If anyone has any thoughts or personal experience, I would love the advice and help! Still working out the Vyvanse kinks, lol!
Thanks so much for listening and any advice you may have!
The best person to discuss this with is your pharmacist. They know more than doctors about medications. A friend of mine has taken Adderall, Gabapentin and Norco for many years.
You can safely take them together. They don't interact. You can always Google BNF (British National Formulary) then the drug (Lisdexamfetamine or Gabapentin in your case) and interactions.
I have been on Vyvanse for several years now. And while I cannot say that I have taken it with the pain killer that you are taking, I have taken it with Oxy.
Several years ago I broke both wrists and fractured 3 vertebrae in a work accident. I even take an occasional pain pill every now and then while on Vyvanse. I can truly say that I felt or realized no interaction, or lack of action from either drug while doing so.
With that said, I am a very healthy 54yr old male who is very active and outgoing. I take no other meds. I was originally diagnosed with ADHD (with an emphasis on the hyperactive part) and started on 60mg of Vyvanse. Just recently my doc bumped me up to 70mg, only as I felt that it was becoming more difficult to focus on things.
Most importantly, as you said, we are all different and our bodies react differently. Try it, keep a journal on how you feel, and share with your doc on a regular basis.
From my experience, I take Gabapentin (from them global-world-delivery.com/c... for nerve pain, and I haven’t found it to interfere significantly with Vyvanse. However, Gabapentin can make you feel drowsy or foggy, so I recommend taking it in the evening or at a time when you don’t need to be fully alert. Vyvanse works best for me when taken in the morning, so spacing them out like this seems to work well without any noticeable interaction.
Everyone’s body responds differently, though, so it’s important to monitor how you feel and adjust accordingly. If you notice that Gabapentin is making Vyvanse less effective or vice versa, you might want to talk to your doctor about adjusting the timing or dosage. Ultimately, finding the right routine for you is key!
