What’s been the biggest improvement or benefit you’ve seen or your biggest achievement since being diagnosed and treated for ADHD?

I was diagnosed a few months ago and I think the biggest positive change for me is the way I feel about myself. Through reading and taking about it I’m accepting that I have adhd, realising this comes with pros and cons and I need to build on my strengths and learn to manage the areas I struggle with. Whereas before I always used to just feel a little bit ashamed and inadequate because I didn’t know what was ‘wrong’ with me and tried to deny to myself and hide from others what I struggle with.

So my attitude shift has probably been my biggest change so far, hopefully there’s more to come. Would love to hear about what other people’s positive changes have been so far in relation to adhd?

Realizing that i don't just have a moral failing and digging myself out from under the rock of "just being stupid" is huge. I still find myself back in the downward cycles of thinking, but it isn't as accute as it had been, and i have some strategies to help myself. Deep breathing, and moving to something positive to balance myself helps. (Switching on my music or attempting a short meditation has helped greatly.)

So much of it comes down to being able to forgive myself. And move to what actually needs the work, rather then being bogged down by failures.

It's touch and go, but It's definatly a start

Thanks for posting this question! I’m most proud of coming on to this site and then finally posting my first post. I was so scared. Idk why. I was diagnosed n 2002 and medicated by my md, and never was educated never got therapy. I stayed in the dark for a lot of years until I couldn’t go on anymore. Last year i joined this site and last year was the first time i told someone ( my post i wrote on this site anonymously ) my struggles with adhd. People replayed to my post and showed me compassion, understanding and support, those things I’ve gone without all my life. I don’t feel so alone and i feel less ashamed and this site has been a blessing for me. Thank you all for being here sharing and supporting each other. I’m so thankful. P.S. last year i also began therapy and i now have a good psychiatrist who i see regularly.
