I'm new to learning about ADHD. I know that medicine is supposed to be very helpful, but right now I'm primarily interested in behavioral and environmental management techniques. What are YOUR favorite non-medical methods for managing the symptoms?
So far, I'm finding helpful:
A launching pad
Making time visual (timelines rather than calendars)
Timers
Transition actions to help the brain make the transition
Short tasks for short times. Frequent rotations.
Writing what I'm supposed to be doing on a piece of paper so I don't forget and wander off into something else
Lists and schedules
A notebook I use constantly
Reminder notes
Keeping important papers on the wall where I can see them
Rewards and treats to help mark and measure progress
Exercise
Recognizing that I need novelty and actively seeking it out
What else do you do? I've heard that things like weighted blankets can help. What other hacks, tricks, or tips are there for keeping someone with ADHD organized, on-track, and motivated? Specific types of music? Supplements? Brain training techniques? Specific ways of setting up a desk? I'd love all of your thoughts about what has helped YOU.
