Tapering off Clonidine

Does anyone know how to safely come off clonidine? My son’s doctor said he can just stop his 0.1mg dose cold turkey but we gave him a slightly lower dose the other night and he had terrible anxiety so we need to taper him off it

Is this a medication you can cut in half? You could ask the Pharmacist to see if it can be cut. You can explain the symptoms to the doctor and they might help you.

does he have another med he’s taking? I had a hard time tapering off of trintellix after taking it for 10 years. It was bad, since I was obviously addicted the my mood swings.

Hello i hope this response is helpful, I would get a second opinion from another Dr if you can . personally have taken this medication for sleep recommended by a Dr. I let her know I wasn’t taking it regularly because I needed to take it at night and sometimes I’d fall asleep without taking the medication. She let me know at the next visit that I could just aim to take it 2x per week. For context I only took that medication for sleep, it was the same dose you mentioned above. I also was not taking any other medications just vitamins (2 I had to not take if I took the clonidine for sleep bc of interactions I looked up ). I’m not sure if your child has other medications that would cause an issue by removing it cold turkey.
