Hello, my 17 yr old daughter was just diagnosed with ADHD. We are seeing the doc on Thursday to get meds started etc
Any advice about meds would be awesome. My hubby is on Adderall and having tick side effects. What else is out there.
Thanks.

I have been satisfied with Concerta for my teen however the downfall is it affects appetite.
We have our 7 year old on guanfacine short acting 1mg - this is a blood pressure medication that works for “some” adhd kids
We have our older family member (40 yrs old) on Propranolol 40mg - this is a beta blocker which works for some adhd adults.

Hope this helps. We were using slow release Gunafacine with our son an fit was not a good fit but the short acting works for school mornings. We almost never need an afternoon dose.
My daughter was diagnosed at 14 and it took us awhile to find the right medication and dose. We tried Adderall initially and found it wasn’t effective and now she’s on Concerta extended release and that’s the right one for her. She also has OCD, depression and generalized anxiety disorder so there’s a combo of meds it took almost a year and a half of trial and error with small tweaks here and there to get the right med/dose combos. Be patient with your daughter and yourselves. It might take a bit! It’s so worth it though! Good luck.
My 15 year old daughter is on Vyvanse. Great focus, takes a short while to kick in.
