I wrote a few post on here on what my sons has tried. So far stimulants exacerbated his tics plus he would not eat on it for an entire day. Strattera did not work on him at all even with on his max dose based on body weight. And Guanfacine was the worse! We tried 1mg for 3weeks and he showed signs of depression, increased aggression and easily frustrated/irritable. So we stopped that one immediately. Now we are back to no meds and figuring out what the next med will be. Appointment is end of this week.
Anyone go through this? What did you try after not being successful on the meds I mentioned?

We have been there too. What works for one is a disaster for another. I have one grandson on Straterra, Risperdone and Guanfacine. Older one is on Wellbutrin, Guanfacine and Quetiapine. Older one did wonderfully on Focalin ER all through grade school. Suddenly in middle school it quit working, he was constantly bothering others, unable to focus.It took two years of trails to find a combo that worked for him. Some meds caused depression, some aggression. Guanfacine caused aggression when my grandson was young but now works well or we did not have it paired with the right medication.
Things are not perfect yet. We still have breakthrough meltdowns, bouts of irritability.
Our psychiatrist mentioned a new medication that is out but I did not ask him what it was.
Finding the right type, dose and right timing of medication is long journey.
Are you working with a child psychiatrist? They are best at helping you through this.
I recently read sometimes less is better. So if you were trying 1mg. Go 1/2 and see if that helps.
Some people say they did the testing to see what medication is the right fit. If you search on the site you should find the past messages about it.

My son just started on new meds after trying his fourth. I told his pediatrician I wanted Vyvanse after doing some reasearch because it has less side effects and he agreed.
Fortunately, my insurance covers this medication since there is no generic. My 17yr old son has ADD and no other diagnosis so it maybe easier to find something overtime that will work for him. I am learning to slow down and take the time to allow the medication to either work or not before moving on. This is very frustrating not having the right medication especially when your child is in school and can be a setback with managing school assignments. I am not letting this get to me his poor school performance, since this is a temporary situation and his grades does not truly reflect his intelligence. All the best!
Yes, now my son is on concerta...but meds are like this you have go through some to find the right one. Super hard and frustrating I know. Keep trying, you all will get there.
We did Quillivant, Adderall, Focalin, and Guanfacine. Didn’t find effectiveness with any, and Guanfacine just sedated him so you couldn’t see when the rage was coming. We found success with broad spectrum micronutrients recommended by the psychiatrist. There are two companies...Hardy Nutritionals and True Hope. I highly encourage you to investigate them.
