ADHD Medication Options

My daughter, 12, has been diagnosed with ADHD and I’ve had a hard time finding meds that are right for her.

She needs to be on something to help with attention and mood swings. Anyone have suggestions?

Doctor recently suggested Jorney.

Hi! It can be so challenging finding the right medication and then once you do, tweaking for timing and dosage. I hope you guys find the right one soon.

Sounds like you’ve already tried some—has the doctor recommended the genetic testing that identifies which formulations (I.e., stimulants vs. non-stimulants) may metabolize/work best? That may allow your doc to eliminate certain kinds and/or hone in on ones that may be most effective. Wishing you luck!

That’s a great idea we had the same problem with our grandson only to have genetic testing and to find out he couldn’t take any of them

At least we know

Good luck it really is such a struggle for everyone involved

Sometimes you need more than one medication although you need to start one at a time. Both of my grandsons are also on a mood stabilizer besides ADHD medication.Good luck finding the right combination.

Look at broad spectrum micronutrients through either Hardy Nutritionals or True Hope. If your child is on medications currently you need to be under supervision as they could cause her to need less medication or eliminate the need.

Ask the doctor to list her diagnoses. Does she just have ADHD or ADHD plus another condition such as anxiety or mood problems? This can affect medication choices.

Hello, mood swings is a common side effect of ADHD medications. Your 12 y.o. is also going through puberty hormonal changes that cause mood swings.
