Quick question is not finishing sentances a symptom of ADHD PI. My DS is 10 has it. Even on meds he often gets to the end of a sentence and finishes it with ...you know what i mean.... yeah yeah etc. Its as though he forgets his train on of thought.
i think he has some social anxiety as well.

thanks - not sure how long to be honest. think its been a very long time. we had a speech assessment when he was 7 as there were a couple of sounds that weren't perfect. there wasn't anything serious though at the time or anything that would explain this and it was very comprehensive. That was before the ADHDPI diagnosis when i was searching for answers as school was telling me he was very distracted. With meds the PI for school is largely sorted - he is doing very well and we have never had any problems with him at home. its these residual quirks i am trying to get to the bottom of.
It has been 3 years. I think he is due for another assessment. My son is 9 and has been diagnosed with Dyslexia. That did not get identified through the speech assessment. He had been discharged from speech therapy around 6 or 7 years old. He continued to have struggles that I could not explain. I think you are right to continue investigating. We have enough experience to know that when something isn't right that there is an answer somewhere and once we know things we can do to help our kiddos.
Thankyou. I guess my issue is when do stop looking for issues? Hence why I was wondering if this could be part of the adhd pi - he is diagnosed for mild inattention. Guess am looking for an easy answer.
The original issue was despite being very clever he wasn’t starting and finishing any class work. Bit zoned out, overwhelmed, not participating etc.
I knew he was quirky from day one but it was the school that made me evaluate as he is an angel at home. Not a focused one but an angel none the less!
Fairly sure he has inattentive adhd or it could be mild asd in my view but on stimulants for school he is in top group for the academic subjects , has found a sport that interests him and is generally very happy and no trouble.
I find all this very difficult as he is very very sensitive to others views of him and searching for more labels not sure how much will help.
My 10 yr old son also struggles with language. We put him in speech therapy and are trying to help him with his anxiety(root of the problem). He is doing so much better now but he does still struggle with ending sentences or even responding to questions.
Thankyou. May I ask if he has adhd. Is the anxiety linked to it or a separate thing. Hope you don’t mind me asking I just have always thought it could be an anxiety thing. My ds is just so so self conscious about what other people think about him. He basically rarely puts his hand up in class because so worried about being mocked. Which makes no sense as he is one of the smarter ones
Yes, he was first diagnosed with ADHD and shortly afterward was diagnosed with anxiety disorder. Due to the anxiety he is considered speech impaired and receives speech therapy at school.
