Mamaturte-

Welcome to the group. This is a common problem when there is not a Special Education staff member supporting our children. These people, unfortunately have not been trained to understand the needs of children with ADHD.

Ask to invite the psychologist or a Specialist who has a spend their career working with children with ADHD.

Hope this helps. If not and your child is seeing a thearpist, guy ou could invite them to a meeting.

Good luck

I would start with the one in school and invite her to a meeting. Have a list of things you want to change. Good luck

His school counselor is always present at these meetings but I signed a form so both counselors can talk to each other.

Then I would make sure the outside attends if possible I

Or have a conversation with the school counselor and tell her the team is not doing x,y and z and ask how she can help the team with these things.

I have a quote I use " if it is working, it will work" so the team needs something else.

Good luck!

Thank you!!! he sees his counselor this Friday so I am going to talk to her to see if she can attend or write a letter to the resource team at his school.

I am lucky that I have a great school that understands what ADHD is and how to treat it. My daughter is also diagnosed bipolar and I did find that there was far less understanding of bipolar. At her initial meeting and also subsequent meetings I invited her therapist to come. She came and was really, really helpful in explaining the differences, which honestly, are sometimes hard to pinpoint, even for me. I have found that the staff and teachers are really eager to learn, but you have to bring it to them. I signed releases so that my daughter's therapists could talk to the school counselors so that everyone was on the same page - SO helpful. My daughter's IEP is for emotional disturbance which I pushed for because it encompasses both of her diagnoses. I make a point of regular emails with teachers, counselors and all of that, which I know most of us do anyway.

For me it was just more about, here I am and here she is and this is what she has and how can all of us do this together. Again, I am very fortunate with her school, but she also has a great team behind her!

Good luck and HUGS

Thank you so much his therapist says to push for an IEP so I've started the process of that, we have a meeting with the resource management team on May 24th my husband also has ADHD so he is going to take off work early to come with me. My lil guy has to see his therapist this Friday so im going to talk to her to see if she can come or write a letter.

Hello, Reach out to your son's school psychologist and express your concerns. The psychologist is educated and experienced in working with children with special needs. Everyone needs to be on the same page so your son is successful. If you still continue to have difficulties with getting the teacher and principal on board, contact your school district special education office. If you do not already have on, you will want to get a 504 or IEP established.

Here is a simple chart I find helps give a succinct easy and quick resource so the staff has no excuse for not at least taking the first step towards getting informed: additude.com/download/expla...
