Hello. My son is 7 years old and is diagnosed with ADHD and disruptive mood disorder. Since 4 years old he’s always had trouble focusing and sitting still. I had to withdrawal him from preschool it was so bad. Finally, mid way through kindergarten I decided maybe he needs some additional help because he began to fall behind academically. My son has Hirchsprungs Disease and was delayed a bit from the hospitalizations (birth until age 4). I’m still not completely convinced he has what he’s been diagnosed with (disruptive mood disorder). The only thing I know for sure is stimulant or Non stimulant causes my son to become so angry (immediately or eventually). He never had mood swings or angry outbursts until we began trial medications. So, how they diagnosed him with disruptive mood disorder after he began medications confuses me. For example, one day I’ll take a toy away and he won’t care AT ALL then the next I’ll take the same toy away and he tears his entire room apart. It’s like no matter what medication we try anger comes with it eventually. He’s been on guavacine 1 mg for 6 months now and overtime his anger and outbursts have gotten worse. Midway they tried to up his dose for whatever reason and it made him angry so I backed him down again (with doctor consent). He was good for awhile and now he’s up & down again. We’re in NC now and currently stuck at home due to the virus. His routine is completely shot and I know that’s a big issue. But is there anyone here who medication just never helped? Are there natural remedies I can try? I’m desperate to help my son. HD is an intestinal disease so if anyone has anything I could possible change in his diet that has helped their ADHD baby please let me know. I know every kid is different. I would just like to speak to another parent with experience vs reading something off google. As of now, I’m pulling my son off the medication completely since school is out and it’s completely unnecessary. I apologize if this post is all over the place, so are my thoughts and what I want to say. Thank you!

HELP
Welcome to the group! We are here to support you. This is such a challenging journey.
Our son who is now 13 years old has other health conditions in addition to his ADHD. Do you know if his HD is under control and not impacting his daily life? For us, our sons worse year in school was 6th grade and it was when his health was the worse. He had uncaring teachers that did not develop a relationship with him and he didn't feel good.
It was not until we saw a pediatric psychiatrist who really spent time dialing in on medication for his ADHD and we managed his other health issues that we got success. She treats both focus and impusitity.
Now he is in 8th grade and talks about how bad it was and that his other health needs were really the issue.
The other thing that has really helped is he continues to see a counselor to discuss his life struggles and a large part of that is how his health impacts his behavior.
Hope this helps.. Kids at young ages don't have the skills to communicate how much stomach issues hurt daily life.
Take care...
Broad spectrum micronutrients! The psychiatrist recommended them for my son and they have been wonderful! He ended up not being diagnosed with mood disorder and avoided Prozac, which is where things were going. There are two companies, Hardy Nutritionals and True Hope. We use the Hardy DEN. My daughter has some stomach issues and I use their olive leaf and greens/probiotics with her. I highly encourage you to research them and see if they might be an option for your son!
Two things you might want to try:
A gluten-, dairy-, and dye-free diet, and a workup by Mensah Medical. They helped our son hugely with mood problems using prescription vitamins. Both worked wonders for our son.
